How do I disassemble my acer 5135 to get to the power jack or where will i find a step by step guide
Before you rush and do some irreversible damage - check if it is still under warranty, I would suggest first checking on this site if you have warranty on it:
If you do not have any warranty left, do not bother sending it for repair! minimum charge is about $100.00 and you can have newer and better one for about $400.00
Replacement of broken power socket inside of your laptop is not exactly for faintarted... in this laptop it is soldered to the motherboard and acer on this model is notorious for doing very sloppy job with it.
As I do not have manual for that particular model (Acer did not bother to provide workshop manuals for that one...), I can provide only general instruction.
1. Remove power cord and battery, disconnect any auxilliaries if connected. This step is must before you even think about repair.
2. Prepare 000 and 00 philips screwdriver (middle and smal), pointed soldering iron, solder wick and solder.
These sites will provide you with some idea howto:
Another word of advice - do not rush! If you never done that before, ask some friend which done bit of soldering. When you put your laptop apart, this repair takes me between 20min to 35min, be prepared for 2hrs.
Prepare clean table without anything on it except butrchers paper, your tools, static strap (many laptops are killed by static electricity!), your laptop.
Put your screws and part in order in which you removed them, make picture on stages before you disconnect any cable, most ribbon cables on laptop are slide in type.
Your parts will go back in reverse order as you take them out.
