My Hewlett Packard Vectra VL PC has two usb ports but doesn't seem to have a driver.

Hello Vivian Elliott,

Without USB drivers the USB port will not get detected so install the suitable drivers of your motherboard. As you've said that yours PC is HP Vectra VL PC but u didnt mentioned the actual motherboard manufacturer and the operating system your using.

So once open the below link and select your operating system and download the suitable drivers.

Cannot display on monitor

If your PC gives single normal beep while booting then try connecting your monitor to another working PC. If it doesn't display then check the VGA cable by replacing it with new one. If the beep is not normal then tell us the beep behaviour.

I just got this Vectra VL420 from a surplus store. I try to start up I get this funny music and then two beeps. I understand two beeps indicate power problems. But not sure what to do to rectify this....

From memory I would say you are in the right ball park.
I remember now. Error 2 means the power supply is in protect mode.
First check the wiring going to the Motherboard from the PSU. There is a four pin connector that lets the PSU know if all is well with the main board. If that is not connected, that may cause your problem
Try a new PSU. They are fairly cheap. Match the power on the specification panel stuck to the PSU.
If those don't fix it, a new motherboard is the next step.
Hope this helps.

The Cause of Problem:

The Power Buttons electrical circle sometimes just braked it by one of sensors and the result is the 2 beeps and Power Supply is in protected mode error.

The whole computer is turn off but the power button is turn on and this is the nub of the matter. Because if you want turn on the computer you can't because already turn on but just the Power button and you can't do anything.

The solution:
You need just change the Power Supply and don't do anything just the power cable put into the Power Supply after turn off computer.
Finaly change back the Power Supply.

HP BIOS beep codes
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/support.html

Because Hewlett-Packard (HP) uses a variety of motherboards and BIOSs, their computers use a variety of beep codes. Instead of listing each model's beep codes, links are provided to the support pages of several popular Hewlett-Packard desktops.
Note: Hewlett-Packard and Compaq merged in 2002 and the new company dropped the Compaq name from all but a few consumer product lines--such as Presario desktops and notebooks. This table lists only HP-branded desktops, while the next table lists Compaq-branded machines.

The PC doesn't work

I know this is about a year later but I just had the same problem too last night.

When you turn on the PC it plays this crazy tone music right? If so, listen to it then at the end you will hear a couple of beeps. In my case my system beep twice at the end. 2 beeps for me indicated Power supply was in protected mode. Luckly I had a spare P4 PS laying around which solved the problem.

If you have different beep code google up "HP Vectra VL420 Beep Code". Standard beep code doesn't apply to this mobo since the BIOS is customized.

My power supply was a standard P4 ATX... no special design from HP you should be able to get one at any computer store. Beware just don't the cheapest one it cuz they aren't build to last and aren't reliable. Trust me I've seen too many people buying cheap power supplies and having them kill their mobo's.
