Question about Acer Aspire 5050-3242 Notebook

2 Answers

My laptop won't connect to wireless internet unless it is running off its battery. As soon as I plug the laptop into a power source, it automatically disconnects from the internet and I cannot get it to reconnect until I have unplugged it again. Yesterday I left the laptop on for a long time and for some reason the Empowering Technology icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen dissapeared. When I plugged my computer into a power source this time, the screen didn't get brighter... but the wireless internet worked! I was quite excited. After I restarted my computer, however, the Empowering Technology icon had reappeared in the bottom right hand corner and wireless internet no longer worked. Please help me fix this!

Re: My laptop won't connect to wireless internet unless...

It seems the two oval lights on the front of the Acer TravelMate 3003LCi are not only lights to indicate WiFi traffic, but also buttons to turn the WiFi radio on and off for security reasons. If you press and hold the left side button for 3-5 seconds it should turn back on the WiFi radio. Windows XP (and maybe other OS’s) have a power saving function that turns the radio off when not in use to save the battery, so you have to use the buttons to turn the radio back on. Seems like a pain in the @$$ to me, but it’s a clients laptop not mine so he will have to live with that.

I hope this helps someone so they do not have to go through the frustration of trying to figure out why the radio has been turned off.

Can eee asus 1008HA laptops use a prepaid 'stick' for internet connection?

The USB wireless stick uses the cell phone network for wireless Internet connection provided it is within that ISP cell phone coverage area.
I doubt you can use a 2nd hand USB wireless stick unless the service is transferred to you. It is best you organise your own Internet connection with a ISP of your choice.
Laptop battery are removable and can be replaced when they are worn out, BUT the BIOS battery is inside the laptop and this can be changes but requires getting access to the insides of the laptop.

If you are running windows vista or windows 7 then you need to go to the power setting on the system, in the advanced options and look for wireless power setting. Turn the when on battery setting to leave the wireless card running instead of turning it off.

Go to display settings, screen saver, power options, balanced power or power saver, and look in there for the wireless adapter.

Wireless Internet wont work unless I plug in a wire

QuickSet utility Wireless options can cause these issues.

There is a setting to always deactivate on battery. Make sure this is not set up. The correct setting would be Always active on battery or Always On, or no power saving options for Wi-Fi. Depending on the version of QuickSet which you have.

Internet connections

Hello I am sorry you r having this problem, I need to know a little bit more info, Now when you plug in your computer to power cord you loose everything with you internet connection. Do you see the active monitor in the lower right hand side, it would look like a monitor blinking or it may not be blinking. Have you also tried to activate the antenna after you plug in your power cord. There should be a button with an antenna on it the upper part of the pc, You may also go into your control panel and turn it on there, It sounds like its set to shut down the wireless connection when plugged in, its just to opposite as what it should be, usually its when you unplug your computer that the internet connection is lost for power saving reasons, you can also right click the connection monitor in the lower right and properties and repair after the power is plugged in of course give that a try and see if that works for you, I hope it help you out with your problems
