Question about GE JVM1650 1000 Watts Microwave Oven
Turns on regularly, but just doesn't get food hot. All functions appear fine. When turn on, the fan sound is a little higher pitched. Manual says to get a repair person but is it worth it.
Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:
- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part such as high-voltage rectifier diode
If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety and disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here:
It may also need a new high-voltage diode and stirrer, and the cavity may be affected.
GE had a campaign (but not a recall!) covering several models.
Details are in their bulletin at http://184.108.40.206/mwd/ge_mw_mag_kit_bulletin.pdf
