Oil leaking from air filter area of push mower and mower smoking

I was mowing my lawn when white smoke started coming out of the side. I pushed it to the sidewalk to look at it, and as I was pushing it, I noticed oil leaking onto the base of the mower. It was coming from the area where the air filter is. I opened that part up, and the air filter and all the area around it is covered in oil.

You have overfilled the oil tank. White smoke is only a hassle, not a serious problem. You have to empty some of the oil and change the gas. Clean the air filter if it is the spongy type with Dawn Dishwashing Liquid, rinsing and drying it well before reinstalling. The white smoke will stop soon as it is still in the gas that is in the carb. If the case is that you haven't filled it with oil prior to this smoke then you must be mowing on a hillside and the gas tank was on the lower side allowing oil to leak into the gas. Same solution.

Oil coming out of air filter

Look for a crankcase ventilation tube or such, It may be covered with grass dust and stuff, is probably a sponge to keep dust out of the motor. Rinse it out, and make sure the airway is clear.

Hi I have a Craftsman Lawn Mower 225 and i bought a 40w oil and put in it and it started leaking and ommiting huge white smoke. what should i do?

Hi Manny First thing is Drain all the oil back out. You have most certainly overfilled it. Try and get as much out as you can from the same place you filled it from. Leave it tilted back until it stops running and then put the mower level for half an hour. Check the oil level now and clean the spark plug and replace it. There will still be oil in the air filter due to over filling. Only put oil in one egg cup at a time until its below max on the dip stick. Run the mower for 20 minutes and burn the smoke off. It may smoke for a few times but thats ok.

I HAVE A CRAFTMANS 6.25 HP PUSH MOWER. I HAVE OIL COMING OUT OF THE MUFFLER AND THE AIR FILTER AREA. WHAT COULD BE WRONG

QUESTION 1 - WERE YOU MOWING ON A HILL SIDEWAYS IF SO THIS IS THE PROBLEM, IF YOU HAVE A STEEP HILL ALWAYS MOW WITH THE CARBERATOR ON THE UPHILL SIDE THIS WILL STOP THE OIL FROM BEING SUCKED INTO THE CARB.
2 - CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IF IT IS IVER FULL BY EVEN A LITTLE THE ENGINE WILL FLOD THE CARB WITH THE OIL. ONE GOOD THING THOUGH IF IT STARTS TO SMOKE WHILE IT RUNNING IT HELPS KEEP THE MASKITOES DOWN. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM ALSO

Brand new weed eater lawn mower blowing white smoke.

Pull air filter see if theres any oil in it,make sure the oil isnt overfilled. Push mowers usually smoke like that if theyre overfilled,or tipped on thier side,if there is oil in filter simply take filter off, drain oil to correct level, and run it till smoke goes away. If none of this is the problem rings are probably shot. Weedeater is a cheap brand and theyre made cheap too,not made to last.

Poulan Pro® Self-Propelled Mower

Make sure the engine is not overfilled with oil most of the small rotary mower engines hold about 20 oz of oil.It will push oil out of the breather is the oil level is too high or if the mower was tipped on its side. Also check the air filter to make sure the oil did not saturate it.Once you correct the problem the smoke should clear up.

Puchased a rover quick start 6 months ago. No revs

Black smoke should not be coming from your air filter. If however, the smoke is coming from your exhaust this could be the result of dirt clogging your air filter and starving the engine of air, hence causing the motor to run on a rich fuel/air mix. If this is the case clean or replace the air filter element, and keep it clean. Another reason for black smoke blowing out is dirty oil in the crank case, if the oil is very dark brown to black in color or smells burnt then it needs replacing.
