How to Replace hard drive for Toshiba Satellite L305-S5875

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-S305 notebook and the internal hard drive is completely dead. I purchased Sata 2.5 Momentus (250 GB) internal hard drive for notebooks. If anyone could give me step by step instructions would be most appreciated!

How to upgrade a toshiba L305 to a 500gb hard without hardware failure error

I'm a bit confused? You are trying to install a HDD with Windows 7 on it from another computer in a Toshiba L305 laptop? If that's correct, it will not work, first, you must format the 500GB SATA HDD, then load the Windows 7 OS to get a clean install. Clarify the question if I am incorrect.

I am trying to format my hard drive on my stalite l305=s5875. i shows the hard drive in bios but when the windows disk looks for it theres nothing there. no hard drive appeares

If your laptop has a SATA hard drive then -
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Satellite L305-S5875 powers off on its own. it does run hot .

Maybe you should let it cool down. A laptop fails to function properly if it's experiencing a thermal overload.
