The speakers won't work and the volume control does nothing, even though when I go into the control panel and play the RealTek Audio stuff, it plays. That's the only sound I can get to work and all drivers are functioning correctly.

if using XP, go to start control panel , sound and audio devices.Under the audio tab make sure the C Media CM106 sound device is selected under sound playback. Then under the volume tab set the volume somewhere in the middle or at the top if you don;t have active speakers . Then Under Speaker settings advanced, make sure the speaker setup is set to Laptop Stereo speakers. Also make sure the speaker volumes are up on the speaker volume button. click ok. If no result check that the cm106 sound decvice was cemented in as I saw it dissaper when I thought i had slected it. I think the key thing here is the device and the laptop speakers setting.
1. Open Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices.
2. Click 'Advanced' Button near the bottom.
3. Select proper sound system (Quadrophonic or surround sound) according to your speaker system. 4. Click 'OK'.
5. Also check volume.
6. Double-click Volume icon in taskbar.
7. Click Options > Properties (From menu) and select 'Playback'.
8. Select all Audio components.
9. Click 'OK'
10. Increase all the volumes.
Now try playing a sound. Good Luck!
What I suggest to you is go control panel click sounds and audio devices the speaker volume is gray out. If you're using Windows XP, go to the Control Panel, then double-click on Sound, then go to the Audio tab and make sure the playback device is set to your Realtek output.
If you're using Windows Vista, go to Control Panel and click on Hardware and Sound, then click on Sound. Make sure your Realtek device is selected with a green check mark. If it isn't, just click on it and then click the Set as Default button down below. Vista sound configuration is kinda quirky, and it does do some kind of detection when you plug a cable into an audio jack, so you might leave this screen up while you plug your speakers into the green audio jack in the sound card and see if it pops anything weird up.
