Question about Kohler CH25 PA-CH730-0040 Command Gasoline Engine

Open Question

No spark either coil on CH25 Kohler

Checked all safety switches, OK. Have 12V at Speed control module going in, however, no power coming out. Checked for power with key in on position and cranking positions. Is there a test to confirm the speed control module is working?

SOURCE: not charging battery no power on stator wires?

With engine off, check continuity through the stator winding. you should have continuity both ways if testing before the diode. If testing after the diode, and you still have continuity both ways, then your diode is blown and needs to be replaced. If you don't have continuity through the stator windings, then stator is defective.

Some models have a fuse in the charging circuit, look for that as well and test with a meter, don't assume visually.

No spark on kohler generator 4ckm21

I don't have any idea what Carl just said, but remove the little ground wire from the coil and try to start the engine. If it fires and runs ok, you have a grounding issue somewhere and need to follow the wires around to see if anything that shouldn't be touching metal, is.

I just changed a head because of a popped valve seat, put it back together and had no spark, turns over but no spark. Checked for loose connections, wires, safties, but still no spark.

Did you have spark before repairs? Maybe the coil got bumped or ground wire to coil is pinched and grounding out. Check coil gap to flywheel, a standard gap is .005". If everything else checks out you probably have a bad coil.

I have a 1 year old kohler command pro ch740s. i pulled plug wire off one side and cant get any spark. i pulled other side off and motor dies. can you tell me what would cause one side not to get any spark

hi there, pauly46 here

from your model type ch730 25 hp 0040 it seems that
this model does not need or use a smart spark ignition module

please check that you dont have a kill wire from your coil groundin somewhere between kill tab on your coil and the ignition switch

then if you still have no spark replace the ignition module
that has no spark - your engine has been running one 1 cyl
as soon you pulled the h t lead off the firing cyl the engine died
that tells you no fire on other side

i am sure these units do not use any diodes fitted between l/h and r/h kill wire tabs leading back to ignition switch , i think these are mainly on briggs vee twin

here is web site for service manual
http://www.kohlerplus.com/main_frame.asp

enter as guest on the site
go to command pro twin
go to service manual section
select SM-24-690-07 ( replaces tp-2450c) from the list
download a copy and print

cheers hope it helps

Kohler cv15 no spark at the plug.

If you disconnected the stop wire it is a coil ground wire and still cannot get a spark to the head at about 1/4 inch from the head the coil is bad. The only other thing could be a broken or loose magnet under the flywheel but that is very very rare.

a voltage check doesnt tell you alot with a coil... check resistance on primary and secondary circuits of coil to test it... ignition module controls coil so if its ok id go after the module... see foriegn cars are no different they break down just as much, its just way more expensive...keep your head up...

Won't start because no spark got 12voltsat coil terminal connections

Is this a Kohler engine? If so there is a wire going to the coil from a 2 wire harness located at rear of engine near spark module. Unplug this wire to determine if problem is coil or a safety switch.
