Question about Pentair MINIMAX NT TSI IGNITER

1 Answer

I have a Pentair MiniMax NT heater about three years old. The unit is making a loud "popping" sound when heating. I think its the heat exchanger from what I am hearing. Can a heat exchanger be cleaned out? Or does it need to be replaced?? Thanks a million Greg

The heat exchanger can be reamed or replaced but it is quite a job; replacing the heat exchanger is very expensive and time consuming. unless your pool chemicals are extremely out of balance, most especially low ph from using tablet chlorine or too much acid the heat exchanger should not have worn out this quickly. the best solution if you do not have a pool serviceman is to call Leslies Pool Supply or a trained Pentair service tech. It may be worth the service call to have the problem diagnosed by a pro.

What causes a clogged up heat exchanger?

if the heater is properly placed (after the filter) there should be no debris getting through to block the exchanger. the only other blockage would be from poor water maintenance. not balancing the water can cause scaling in the system. this will not be limited to the heat exchanger (smallest openings get blocked first) but may be found throughout the system

I have a 8 year old pentair minimax 200ch that does not start but pilot liights up

all these heaters have safety features that must test 'ok' before they will light. the first place to start is the pressure switch. if it doesnt sense water flow, you will not have heat

There's water leaking from side of heater

this is 100% broken heat exchanger its the coils inside of heater that heats the water this usually happines from really old age or because your climate temperature is below freezing and broke the coils, i see it all the time in winter season, best way to prevent this is to run your heater for fifteen minutes every month and make sure pool equipment runs all day everyday when its really cold out you can start running system normaly after your outside temp is warmer. its better to get a new heater when this happines heat exchanger is hard to install for most tech's pretty much have to take whole top part of heater off and is also expensive part

I let my pool heater freeze

Once a Pool / Jacuzzi heater freezes they will haunt you again and again. You fix one leak and weeks or months later another one appears. Sometimes the only damge done is just the manifold gasket. It would be worth HANDS ON repair "estimate" to find out if it is the manifold or the heat exchanger that has failed. If the heat exchanger has failed BUY A NEW ONE.

Pentair Minimax NT 400 heater. fan keeps coming

Sounds like the controller is the problem. This is the circuit board that has the display and controls on it. You can swing that panel open and try tapping on the white plastic cover the controller is under that. This might get the fan relay to release but you will have to replace the controller it will stick again

Pool heater will not heat

Im no pro, but I know there is an air sensor behind the main board. If the fan is running you probably have a problem with that sensor. If your lucky the air hose could have just popped off.
