Try plugging a desktop monitor into the aux monitor port located in rear. If it comes on, computer is good and screen is gone.

White spot on my laptop screen

Increase color depth for strange colors on your display.

If that doesn't work you probably have dead spots on your screen that no longer work. This means that your LCD assembly is no longer functioning and you will need to replace it.

The screen turned off on my dell studio 17. Is there anyway to turn it back on without disturbing a video I'm uploading to youtube?

usuaully you would just move the mouse cursor or pres a key on the keyboard to put the screen back on?

if your screen hasn't timed out, the laptop may have gone into standby or hibernation mod?
this would mean the video is no longer uploading to youtube

goodluck

My laptop is plugged in but the screen only switches on for a second before going black

My daughter's laptop had same issue...but screen would generally stay on a little longer and then turn off. If you looked at the screen under a bright light, you could see that the screen was still working, just no backlight. Toshiba said we had to remove the battery for shipping purposes, so I pulled the battery out and the screen stayed on for longer but eventually went out. Sent it back to Toshiba under warranty for them to replace the inverter (was only last week of warranty too so lucky!). But if it was out of warranty - very cheap to replace an inverter. If you google your laptop model and "how to disassemble" you should be able to find a website that will explain in very easy terms how to open your machine up.

Screen Problem

Hello,

Please check your memory or your motherboard if it has a hardware problem. If your laptop is under warranty then i suggest you call or return or report your unit to the supplier or store where you buy the laptop unit so that they can examine and replace the hardware that causes the error. Also if your unit is no longer under warranty then i suggest please find a computer technician in your place or a computer shop then let your laptop unit examine and fix the problem. in that way you can avoid any possible additional damage may cause in your laptop.

Thanks

The back cover of my Acer Extensa 5220 laptop is cracked

It would cost about $100-200 for parts.

That doesn't include the repair time. For me it would take about 10-15 minutes.

For a novice about 1-2 hours.

That's the jest of it.

New laptops $200-400 for decent rigs.

Full screen probs with netflix

This has nothing to do with Netflix, you would get the same result with any DVD regardless of its origin. Chances are that is the laptop trying to revert to a screen saver or power save mode during the movie.

Check your laptop's power and screen saver settings. If you are experiencing the problem every 3 minutes or so, your screen saver is most likely scheduled to go on after 3 minutes of inactivity. The same goes for your monitor-- it may try to dim or turn off after a certain amount of time.

To change these settings to a longer delay, go to your desktop and right click. Select "Properties". Choose the "screen saver" tab, and change the "wait:" field to a higher number. Or, just turn the screen saver off by selecting "(none)" under the screen saver dropbox. You may also click "Power" and change the time for "turn off monitor" to "never", or a longer amount of time.

Screen Back light no longer works

Bad wire or a bad solder. you can have this repaired if you have the service manual of the computer as it shows the full anatomy of the machine. Or a local computer shop is always a good option.

It no longer turns on and boots up

If after powering it on there is black screen and green light is flashing (the one for wireless/bluetooh) probably there is something wrong with the motherboard. If the laptop starts up to a moment when messages on a screen appear it means that all various components may malfunction (such as RAM memory, Hard Drive, graphic card, etc) .
