I want to save intallation and install it to another computer

If you still have youir Vista license key and it is retail (not OEM), then you will be able to transfer your installation intact. Use windows vista system (not file) backup to a portable HDD. Also make a rescue disk. Then boot to the rescue disk on the other computer and follow the prompts to recover the main backup you made. You will need your license key to activate the new Vista. You may need to tell Microsoft that your old computer is no longer working to transfer the license. If the old license was OEM, you can't move the license (it is for the life of the original computer/motherboard only), and you will have to buy a Windows 8.1 pro license and migrate your data instead. I have done that from windows Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. I used all different types of backups (including Mig, vista file backups, copy my whole profile) and carefully put it all back together. Let me know if you want more help with anything specific.

Can not find Windows Product Key Number on Computer. I have Internet Explorer 9.

If you cannot find the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label on your computer case, then you may be able to discover what license key was used when Windows Vista was installed by downloading and installing a copy of the free Belarc Advisor inventory utility.

When you run Belarc Advisor it will analyse your software and hardware inventory and display a web page (from your local hard drive) giving details of any license keys found for Windows and Office products.

Please note that the license key shown may not be one that you could use to re-install Windows if it was from a commercial version of Windows used to build a series of different computers. Belarc Advisor will add a foot-note to the license key if it thinks that is possible.

I need a key for my windows vista home basic. can anybody help me. mail to : esperra@hotmail.com

If your computer is a brand-name PC, then a sticker with your license number (known as a COA or Certificate Of Authenticity) should be attached somewhere on the computer.

If you don't have the COA attached to the computer, restoring the computer using the manufacturer's CD/DVD's will restore Windows to an activated state.

If the computer is running Vista Basic but you lost the key, then download Magic Jelly Bean Key Finder here:

I have vista and after the microsoft logo appears I get a blank screen. I was wondering since laptop recognizes that vista is there, if I just say screw it and buy windows7 upgrade, will the upgrade take?

Generally, this means that Windows needs to be repaired by a professional with several types of tools. While I haven't attempted an upgrade from a broken Vista install, I would not recommend it. From what I've seen in the past, this issue is generally caused by Viruses and Spyware. My suggestion is to have a professional look at it before you do anything. If you don't care about the data and have a restore CD or partition, use that(note: you may need your original OEM license key on the bottom of the laptop). A professional can also grab your data for you by removing the hard drive and attaching it to another computer.
