Dell optiplex GX620 desktop has an ethernet port on it, that is not an adapter, I cannot connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a driver for a wireless ethernet adapter, but that has not...

Okay,..........

1) You can download a wireless Ethernet adapter driver all day, but if you Do Not have a wireless adapter card installed in your computer, the drivers do you no good.

Or if you do not have a wireless USB adapter plugged into a USB port.

Example of a wireless adapter card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4695358&CatId=2692

Example of a wireless USB device,

Example of an Ethernet adapter card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=686143&CatId=200

If you are just going to hardwire the computer, just buy an Ethernet adapter card, (PCI version), and install it in your computer, (On the motherboard), in any available white PCI slot.

IF it is the Mini Tower model.

The Desktop, Small Form Factor (SFF), and Ultra Small Form Factor (SFF) computers, are too small in width for a regular size Ethernet adapter card.

They need a Low-Profile Ethernet adapter card,

This is for a Dell Optiplex GX620 Mini-Tower computer,

Scroll the page down until you come to the bold blue heading - System Board Components
This is an illustration of a Top view of the Mini-Tower's motherboard.

16 and 17 point to two PCI slots.
This is where an Ethernet adapter card that is the PCI version, will plug into.

PCI slots are White in color.
An example of a basic PCI slot, ( 3 are shown),

If you do decide to go wireless;

1) Wireless networking operates at half of the speed of wired networking.

A computer that is wired directly to an Ethernet adapter card, is twice as fast on the internet, as a computer that is connected wireless.

2) Make sure your Router is capable of wireless.
Make sure the wireless router has a built-in Modem, or that you have a separate Modem.

[ For DSL.
Phone line connects to Filter. Filter has a place for a telephone cable, and an Ethernet cable.
Ethernet cable connects to Filter, and other end connects to Modem.
Ethernet cable goes from Modem to Wireless router that does not have a built-in Modem.

OR,
Phone line connects to Filter. Ethernet cable from Filter goes directly to wireless router, that has a built-in Modem.

Computer has to have a USB wireless device, or a wireless adapter card, installed.

MY Dell Inspiron 5100 Laptop suffers from Network unhealthy adapter [error 27000]. Please show any solution to get the Internet access.

If this is referring to the Lan (on board adapter -rj45 cable plug ) ..try to see if it is a driver related issue ...and to do this ..download the correct driver for ti from the support site ..and run it again ..restart and see the changes..If it is still the same it means your card is corrupted and need to be changed...(which can be a issue if it is on board) ..If you have a pci port available you can try to install a new card for network ..or use the wireless card to coonect to the net ..(install a router to the main net cord... use a desktop or another computer to make the settings and use your laptop wireless )
or ..if this error is on the wireless card ..buy a USB wireless adapter and use it ..
or ..if you are satisfied with the cable connection ..a solution can be a usb lan card ..
here is a link for examples.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=589&name=10-100%20Ethernet%20USB
This will have to be installed and will run exactly like a Ethernet LAN card ..and it will not require any intervention inside of the notebook ..
Good luck ..and please do not forget to rate the answer.

I am using windows XP, when i insert a network connection on the NIC port, the right NIC light blinks yellow instead of Green, repeatedly a message says a new hardware is detected and fails to install. i...

The yellow light means that it's not connected with a compatible driver to the computer or it is not connecting to your network for some reason.

Green, means everything is, ok.

I've encountered this before on some off brand network adapters, and tried other ones, and that was the only way I could make it work...
in an unknown system.

However, since you say that yours worked before... that tells me that you think it should work, again. But, something could have changed in your network.

Are there any other components on your network, like a switch that could have gone bad, or bad wiring?

Install drivers for ethernet card or buy a usb to ethernet adapter. That will get you on the net so you can install your other drivers via thinkvantage installer. Or you can just cruise the net with the usb to ethernet adapter itself.

Questions about replacing ethernet card on my Dell desktop

Any ethernet card will work fine. Just be sure it's the fit's the correct slot. You probably have a "white" slot which is a pci slot. If it's a longer "black" slot then it's isa. More than likely it came from a pci slot. Before you buy one, confirm the type of slot. In additon, before installing it go to control panel and system settings, hardware, device manager and remove the old one by right clicking it and select delete or remove. Shut down the computer follow instructions for new card.
Probably will have to install the drivers first then shut down and install the new card. Good Luck.

Ethernet port connection failure

You could get another ethernet card from ebay for less than $10. Although, honestly, I don't think the port could have oxidized in 5 years. What is the error message(s)?

No ethernet port on older Dell desktop

Yes, all you need is a PCI ethernet card. You can pick them up rather cheap. Here is one. You basically plug it into an available PCI port on the inside of your computer. If XP doesn't automatically install it, just insert the included CD with the drivers on it and XP will do the rest. And remember to please give this answer a good rating of fixya. Thanks.

Internet card

You can call the provider where you got the card and they can tell you where to go on the net to download the program that connects it. Its free if you can find out what the card reads or what kind it is.
