I encountered a novel way to resolve that issue on an Inspiron 1110, where the person working on it had also broken the Keyboard cable connector clip. They used clear packing tape to hold the ribbon cable in the connection. It may take some diligence, but you may be able to get a decent cable connection that way.

To use the printer with your computer, first you have to install the drivers and make power cable connection. HP LaserJet 1018 has USB connectivity. So, you have to connect it to the PC via USB Cable.

Visit the above links from HP Official Support and download the Drivers for your Model of the printer and Operating System (e.g. Windows XP) and user manual. Double-click the downloaded driver file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer.

I bought a new computer with windows 7. The disk for my hp laserjet 1018 does not work on windows7. I have downloaded the driver from the hp site and it downloaded fine. I opened the download and it asked that I plug the printer in the usb port. Then it said " device is connected, waiting for PnP to finish installing driver... This was shown for over half an hour but nothing happened. What can I do now?

first of all remove the power cable and rmove the usb connection or  parallal connection from the pc. Then conneted the power and usb cable. you need to open the case to remove the printer cartise. and add the cartise. Start your pc. give print command.

to delete the print job.
shut off the printer, disconnect the printer cable to the computer.
go to strat>>printer and faxes.
open the pirnter queue. stop the print job then delete. you may have to restrat the computer.
once the job is deleted, connect the printer cable back to the computer and turn on the printer.
