Check the contacts on the bottom of the pack. for some reason, the plastic sheathing covers the positve contact of one of the batteries. i took an xacto knife and cut a small hole to expose that end. after that, voila, no more charging problem. i woke up to a full charge this morning!!!

I have had the same problem with of my Flip Ultra's. They are brand new. I've noticed that when plugged in, the unit will beep and display "check battery pacl charging paused" error. and then will go back to charging. It'll do this for about 4 times then continue charging fine after that.

See if it'll do that for you. The only time it seemed to stop charging was after displaying the "battery pack too hot" message.

I'm going to try the method of removing the battery for a few days and see if that'll fix it. I've tried all the other methods with no success.

I realized since I have a desktop computer that I was using a USB extension cord to charge my cameras. While having no trouble transfering files, I did receive error "check battery pack" errors while charging.

Rigging a box under my camera so I could plug it directly into my desktop computers USB port (not using my USB extender)

I noticed I haven't gotten the error as of yet) 10 minutes charging.

Just something else to check in case this is how you are charging your camera (with a USB extender)

Oh my god, you people will slap yourselves in the head once you hear the real solution to this problem.

It's simple.

The standard Flip rechargeable battery has a sleeve wrapped around it. You will notice that on one end the plastic covers one of the metal heads. Simply break the plastic exposing the metal head and insert into the flip. presto.
Note, you do not need to break the entire plastic sleeve which holds the batteries. (You only need to break the sleeve locally where the metal head is hidden) Your flip will begin to charge. I don't know why people bother posting suggestions if they don't actually know the answer it's so annoying. Anyway this is the solution and I cannot believe nobody else has written this on the internet. Believe me I have searched everywhere.

Please let me know if this worked for you

Many thanks

I hear what you're saying... and you should include your own smug self as one of those 'annoying' people because your 'solution' didn't work for me.

The problem for me seemed to be that the battery was getting to hot, and I got the error "Check Battery Pack Charging paused".

Try taking the battery cover off while charging, if that doesn't work, let a fan blow on it while charging to keep the battery cool.

I just bought my 11 year old an ultra hd 2 hr flip video, we cannot even get it to power on, any suggestions?

You need to first Charge your camcorder battery pack.(mine had to charge over night) the first time.  Plug the little arm that extends from the camera into a USB 2 port on your computer and make sure your computer stays ON during the charging, otherwise the camcorder will not charge.

A red light will come on during charge and goes off when charged. If it does not come while plugged in try a different USB port.  Screen should light up temporarily and Red light showing charging on front of camcorder.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE THE ABOVE, and are having the problem, pull the battery pack out and reseat it back in there again.  maybe connection not good.  OH, and I think mine had plastic covering the metal connections you may want to check that too -remove if so----- BUT the entire white plastic around the batteries STAYS IN PLACE do not remove that.

If that still doesn't work I would try regular AA batteries in it if in fact you have The FLIP ULTRA HD it will take regular batteries too.    IF they work - then maybe you got a defective Rechargeable Battery pack and should contact Flip Video at   http://www.theflip.com/en-us/

My Flipshare video camera will not turn on. When I try to power it up on my computer or with the power cord, nothing happens. No light goes on, no nothing. Pleas help!

Hi d_cockerham,

You should try resetting your Ultra HD Flip Camcorder. Unfortunaately the support knowledgebase does not list the proceedure but I managed to get an email from them on how to proceed.

The steps to reset/resolve an issue where your UltraHD will NOT turn "On" is as follows:
  1. Remove the battery pack from the camcorder.
  2. Connect the camcorder to a powered USB port on your computer.
  3. When the "Connected" indicator comes on, insert the battery pack into the camcorder.
  4. Safe eject your camcorder from your computer.
  5. Reconnect your camcorder to your computer.
  6. The battery pack should now begin to charge within the camcorder
Hope this helps anyone else who encountered similar problems.

I have a Flip mino hd. Battery is totally dead and I cannot get it to charge. I have used my computer USB and my friend has loaned me his Flip charger. NOTHING! Should I throw the camera away? I cannot...

Try a different USB port and don't use an extension cable with it either. Make sure the computer you are using is turned ON and stays on during the charging. not sure about the second half of your question, not knowing how to open? and change the battery? If you never opened it to begin with how did you get the rechargeable battery pack into it?? they don't come installed. battery was separate in the packaging on mine. anyhow, there is a little slide button at bottom of camcorder slide the opposite direction, then the whole front of the camcorder slides down and off of the camera. The battery pack goes in. the White plastic that covers both batteries Stays on them do not remove, but if there is a little plastic strip covering the connections remove that. I have the Ultra HD and it also takes regular AA batteries, and you may try that too to see if it will work your camera, if not, maybe something is wrong with the camera.
I am hoping you did not think the rechargeable batteries were already in the camcorder and they got thrown away with the packaging !!!! IF so, then use AA batteries instead. good luck. :)

I'm having a hard time getting my Flip HD to charge. It is brand new and this is the first time I've had to charge it. Sometimes the red light is on and steady and other times the red light is flashing. ...

I had this charging problem with 2 new Flip Ultra HD cameras...red light flashing..nothing on the screen after plugging in the USB port.

I removed the battery..plugged camera into USB port..pc recognized the camera... installed flipshare software..updated software...plugged battery back in..all good.

Why on earth the book doesn't mention these steps is beyond me.

Failure in the camera's USB ports

Finally I solved it!!!!
Situation: My Computer (MAC And PC) wasn't recognizing the FLIP ULTRA HD, because it has a corrupted file, but couldn't format because there was no communication between camera and computer

Solution:
1. Charge your batteries until get the FULLY CHARGED icon (Green Battery)
2. then remove the batteries without unplugging the USB 3. Voila...computer recognize the USB
4. Format the Camcorder with the Following tutorial: http://www6.nohold.net/CiscoFlip/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=763c871b45fc4b20b5a671b24c909

Flip ultra hd not charging

I had the same problem, but it seemed to be a bit more sporadic. I'd occasionally get the "Charging Paused - Check Battery Pack" error. The battery pack itself looks a bit strange, since the white plastic covers the bottom, right side and it seems that there is no possible way for the battery to make contact with the camera. However, I saw the following suggestion on another site (which the poster claimed came from Flip technical support), and this technique worked for me:

1) remove the battery pack from the camcorder
2) connect the camcorder to a powered USB port on your computer
3) when the "Connected" indicator comes on, insert the battery pack into the camcorder
4) safe eject your camcorder from your computer
5) reconnect your camcorder to your computer
6) the battery pack should now begin to charge within the camcorder

Flip video won't charge

If you look on the bottom of the camera there is a button that slides from a locked to an unlocked position. Slide it to unlocked and then slide down the back of the camera (the side with the lens) there is a removeable rechargeable battery pack. Remove it for a moment and then put it back in. Try plugging back into the USB port. This should work.
