Question about Electronic Arts Sim City 4: Deluxe Edition for Windows

1 Answer

No Disc in drive E

I have recently built a computer, with an Athlon 64 X2 and 2 gigs of ram ,which is a major upgrade over my old Dell with a Pentium 3 and 256 megs of ram. I have been able to play most of my games, which include Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, Trainz Railroad Simulator and Flight Gear, but my problem is with Sim City 4. The installation goes smoothly with no bumps or error messages. But instead of launching the game after it installs, (like it's supposed to), I get an error message that says_ "No disc in drive E. Please insert the correct disc and try again". I also cannot play DVD's, but I know where to buy a program with a decoder. Would that affect the game play of Sim City, or is it something else? Thanks to anyone who can come up with a solution- this is my favorite game! (I do not have the Deluxe Edition, I just chose that as the product since there was no plain "Sim City 4".)

I have tried starting it with the disc in the drive but I get the same box. If I try to start from the desktop icon nothing happens at all, no boxes or anything. I would like to play it again soon!

If you installed the game using a cd then let the cd remain in the drive when you start the game, If you installed it from the HDD itself you will have to mount it to the virtual drive and start playing.

Hope this solves the issue

Windows will not install if you have more then 4GB of memory. Reconfigure the ram so it only has 4 GB and it should install.

What is the best upgrade cpu for a compaq presario sr5110nx 32 bit vista O.S... ATHLON 64 (single core) without having to go to 64 bit, and/or new drivers ?

The 400W PSU is going to limit your CPU selection to dual-core at best, although you might be able to get away with a higher-end dual-core CPU if your RAM is not ECC and not dual-channel, and you're not running anything serious in terms of a graphics or sound card or a SCSI array.

Given your current setup I'd really look for a 1.6Ghz dual-core Athlon which has a decent amount of KB in its Level 1 and Level 2 cache, but 3MB for its Level 3 cache.

Anything beyond that ballpark of a CPU upgrade is certainly well within the bounds of diminishing returns, and you should look at getting a new PSU, motherboard, and probably RAM (I'm guessing you're using DDR2 RAM currently).

I have an ET1161-05- can it be upgraded to hold more memory and run faster?

Hi.
Yes, your computer came with 2 gig's of ram in the form of 2 1gig modules of ddr2 ram.

There are 4 slots for memory all together, and each slot can hold 2 gig memory chips in each one, for a total of 8 gig's of ram!

That would cause a serious performance improvement for you.

It also came with a 160 gb hard drive, so if you want to, you can get as larger drive as well.

As far as processors, a dual core, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Brisbane 2.9GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W processor will fit in with absolutely no bios updates required, so all you would have to do is take the old processor out, put the new one in, and turn the computer on.
It will recognize the new processor automatically, and will work right away!

This will have a significant performance boost, possibly doubling the total speed of your computer.

I hope this helps you out, and have a good day !

No you don't have to install a 64 bit OS. Only if you install over 3 gigs you MUST install a 64 bit operating system. 800MHZ is fine it will just back down to 667MHZ. your 32bit windows OS will see up to 3 gigs (minus graphics card memory). SO 2 gigs will work fine. Install one stick at a time and check in the OS and bios to make sure each stick works. I would say you possibly have a dead ram stick.

Help Upgrading Processor

You'll find the information you seek at both the processor company and the motherboard company. As for remounting it in a Compaq case you may run into some issues of the On/Off Switch, power lead, reset button ect...matching up. You might be suprised at how inexpensive a new computer case is. I've seen some as low as $25. Your power supply can be removed and it will fit in your new case. You may just have a easier go of it. Good luck...please leave a rating, thank you kindly
