Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera
I set the USB to PictBridge mode (press home button, then main settings). Now iPhoto recognizes the camera and I can import photos.

I also tried the keyboard technique after the camera wouldn't mount and it worked for me. Not very convenient given the fact thats its USB 1 so it's slower. But at least it works this way! I have an iMac G5 and had set the camera to Pictbridge.

I may have a solution...at least for someone's problem.... I posted earlier as having this same problem. I recently purchased two Sony digital cameras, DSC-W80 and DSC-T200. I took some test photos with both cameras. I tried to connect them to a Powerbook G4 OS 10.3.9. It would not recognize the DSC-W80 at all....the DSC-T200 was recognized by iPhoto, but the computer would not load it as a disk. Then I attempted to load the photos onto my PowerMac G5 OS 10.2.8 and neither camera was recognized by the computer as a drive nor thru iPhoto.
Scouring Sony and Apple websites and newsgroups resulted in nothing, furthermore, I downloaded the Sony DSC-W80 in-depth manual PDF, 120+ pages (more detailed than the manual that came with the camera) and it does not even mention compatibility with Macs. It only says that it is recommended for use with Windows! So I wondered if it was a Marketing Dept. addition to the packaging and advertising, and the cameras weren't developed to work well with Macs in the first place!
So anyway, I was about to return both cameras when I thought about how both computers recognized my old Sony digital camera. It occurred to me that my old camera used a memory stick only. I had not tested the cameras with the stick yet, I was using the internal memory only. When I took more test photos using the memory stick, both computer systems recognized both cameras. It launched iPhoto, AND the stick appeared as a USB drive. I also tested the cameras on a new MacMini with OS 10.4.10, and it didn't have any problems recognizing the stick or the internal memory.
Having this problem is pretty frustrating....I hope this information is helpful to someone else.

I had exact same problem and discovered after hours of fiddling that plugging USB into keyboard worked exactly as it was supposed to . Camera was not recognized at all in any other slot.
