Need to increase the hdd size in a dell poweredge 1600sc with raid 1

You will not be able to increase the hdd size of a raid array, it's size is set. If you need more storage, you can add additional drives ( either in raid or standalone ) and use the new drive(s) for storage, but the original array will remain unchanged. The other option is to back up all of your data, install new drives and create a new array.

How do I replace a 73Gb disk in a RAID 5 config - DELL PE 4600

That depends on your configuration.
If the drive you want to change is installed in the peripheral bay, you have to turn the machine off before you can pull that drive out. Also: Hot-plug drive installation is not supported for systems without an integrated RAID controller or host adapter expansion card!

Look for more details on how to change a drive here.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Wont boot says array controller wont start and no bios dell power edge 2500 server

Sounds like the RAID controller has failed. I would replace this first as RAID controllers are less expensive than replacing the system board, or the server as a whole.

Suggested: PERC 5i (RAID 0/1/5) or PERC 5iR (RAID 1 or 0 only)

Does Dell PowerEdge 4600 Server support DVD ROM

I am working on one of these now and yes, it should boot from DVDROM. Be aware that it is a notebook style drive and there are no onboard IDE or SATA controllers, so once the drive dies you're in for a wallet hit. Same goes for the floppy drive which is integrated with the DVDROM. Even worse, the presence of the broken floppy usually means a USB floppy drive won't help when loading windows drivers at install time.

Our 1600sc dell server is beeping continuosly.

Check the PowerEdge Raid Controller for parity problems. Sounds like the status on the physical volumes participating in a RAID array has been degraded.

Loud beeping from a drive is usually an indication that an invalid drive array member has resulted in a degraded logical volume.

If you were counting correctly, you had at least three drives - most likely participating in a RAID-5 setup. The array might have been rebuilt with one bad drive. But it sounds like you've got two corrupt physical volumes in the array. And that's not good.

Hope you've got a backup!

The server doesn't boot and when I accessed the container configuration utility - clicked manage containers; my RAID 5 (136.7GB) container is dead and has 2 missing members out of 3. The 3rd one is 68.3GB...

You can download the drivers here:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WNT5&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PWE_FOS_XEON_4600&hidos=WNET&hidlang=en&TabIndex=
However, due to the many configurations available in the PowerEdge server 4600, there is no way for me to tell you exactly which controller driver to use. You will probably have to make a boot disk to feed the driver to windows 2000.
Comment back with specific controller model numbers, and maybe I can direct you to the correct download.
