Monitor went dark and does not light up at all. Is it more cost effective to trash it and buy another or is repair feasable?

This could be due to the flourescent backlight going bad (yes, it can be replaced in some cases) or the monitor power supply (internal) or your video card giving out. Hook up another monitor to see if it works. Can you see images (very faintly) on the monitor? Had it been fading over time?

If you still get the blue power light output but it is dimmed, I've had the same problem - unplug both computer and monitor - hold power button for monitor for 15-30 seconds...then power it back on and then power on the computer. Seems from other sites there is a power issue with the monitor - this worked for me.

A kit to replace the capacitors on the backlight power board is under $20, and you can do it yourself if you have soldering experience.

the inverter on the LCD has gone out unfortunately the only thing you can do is replace the LCD and by the time you do that you would have come out way cheaper buying another camera. Not a very feasable or cost effective replacement option

Samsung 21.5 LCD monitor suddenly turned dark. Can this be fixed or should I just trash it?

Your monitor has symptoms of power supply failure. The age of the monitor and the cost of repair will influence your decision whether to repair it or dump it

Monitor will not turn on

Capacitors in the power supply or inverter are begining to fail. If the monitor has a few thousand hours on it, the tubes may be close to the end of their service life as well.

If you open the unit up, look for bulged or leaking capacitors- when they leak it is a dark brown or black residue.

Unless the unit is rather new, it may not be a cost effective repair unless you have the patience to do the work yourself..

HI, I have a NEC monitor 1760nx, dark blotches on the screen

Listen, for what it is going to cost you to fix the unit, you are better off replacing it and having a new warranty to boot. Simply not cost effective to repair given the cost of a new monitor these days.

Raymarine E120, after 4h on display went dark in

blubaju, probably cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp backlight failure! if unit dosen't have electro-luminescent style backlighting. All LCD panels require WHITE light to see what is on the screen!!! Is same common problem that computer (pc) lcd monitors suffer from!!! I suspect that if your unit has CCFL's, that the SMPS power supply or CCFlamp INVERTER circuit has a problem common to ALL LCD monitors. I should think that any BIG TIME tv/monitor repair shop could examine the printed circuit boards and effect a repair for you! Just mention that you think it suffers from the BLACK SCREEN of DEATH syndrome!!! Also mention that to RAYMARINE!!! when you call them and **** them out!! 12fixlouie .5hr nrth/wst of Windy City Rate this on fixya if this msg helpful??

The picture tube went black, but I can still hear the television channels.

Sounds like a back lighting or back light power supply problem.

Turn it on and get close to one edge and see if you can see a ghost image, You may even need a flashlight and get just the right angle but you should see it.

Check your warranty it will be covered under that. Then check replacement cost. Repairs can cost as much or a good portion of what a new tv will cost. As TV prices drop repairing them is not cost effective.

This is something that you can do yourself if you have to. You can find repair parts and instructions online. This problem happens with any type of lcd TV monitor or laptop display. and all the repairs are about the same.

172FPb suddenly went dark. shows display very briefly at startup and when powered on and off. Do you think a monitor or video card issue?

That happen when the display detects a failure and goes off, likely a short circuit. It is a monitor issue. Looks like you are one of hundreds unfortunates clients that got a broken inverter driver. Here are instructions how to fix it:

I do not recommend you to follow the steps there provided if you don't have any experience about computer repair.

I have a Dell 17" flat screen ultrasharp monitor. It suddenly went dark and will not power up. Can it be repaired?

With the dropping price of monitors today; can get a good 22 inch lcd for less than $200 in most stores, it would probably cost more to have the old monitor repaired than just replace with a new monitor. Hope this helps.

Monitor Barely readable and dark but display is correct

We have about 20 of these at work. Four of them went dark, to varying degrees, in the two years they were covered by warrantee, and were sent back to the factory for repairs. Since then, eleven more have gone dark. I finally got around to looking at them a few days ago. I have repaired five so far, and in every case it has been the same cause.
The capacitors on the inverter board are burning out. There are two 470uF, two 1500uF and a 1000uF that are not holding up.
Costs about 4 bucks for replacement parts at digikey; qtys and Part numbers are:
2 PN #493-1561-ND
1 PN #565-1664-ND
2 PN #P13124-ND
It takes about an hour, and minimal skill with a soldering iron to fix.
