In service test menu scroll to "3.Hard disc drive", & press enter, if test drive passed don't replace the hard disc or modification or changes. If test failed then check as shown below: 1 Switch the printer OFF. Remove the EIO Card (if installed) and re-install the Hard Disk Drive making sure it installed correctly by pushing it firmly inwards and checking that the two installation screws are completely tightened. Switch the printer ON again and repeat the Hard Disk Drive Test. If the Hard Disk Drive Test fails again then replace the Hard Disk Drive. 2 If the Hard Disk Drive Test passed after removing the EIO Card, then switch the Printer OFF and reinstall the EIO Card, making sure that the two installation screws are completely tightened. Switch the Printer ON again and repeat the Hard Disk Drive Test. If the Hard Disk Drive Test fails, then the EIO Card could be faulty.Replace the EIO Card. 3 If the Hard Disk Drive Test continues to fail after replacing the EIO card or the Hard Disk Drive, then replace the Electronics Module.. I am having little knowledge, if I am wrong Pl don't comment, pl forgive me.
Your system is trying to boot to a Network Boot (PXE Boot is the way corporations image systems on the network with a corporate image) most likely this is due to the hard drive in your system failing and not being detected as a boot device (PXE boot is normally set as an option to boot after trying the hard drive then the optical drive) You can try re-seating the hard disk drive then resetting the BIOS defaults and see if the hard drive is detected and boots, if that fails, then most likely the hard disk drive has failed and you will need to replace the drive, then re-install Windows, all drivers, and all applications.
The hard drive is going to fail in the near future. I recommend you back up your data before the hard drive fails completely. When the hard drive fails, replace the hard drive, and use your Compaq recovery disk to install Windows and the device drivers plus your programs to get the laptop working again.
This issue is often caused by either an incorrect setting in BIOS or a bad boot device, such as a bad hard disk drive.
Try this:
Verify that your hard disk drive is setup and detected properly in BIOS. You're computer should list a hard disk drive installed either under the main page or the drives page in BIOS. If BIOS indicates the drive is not installed or not detected skip to Hard Disk drive is bad or not connected properly. Verify the boot options are properly set in BIOS, almost all BIOS setups should contain options specifying how your computer boots. For example, most computers should have their boot options setup similar to the below example.
- Floppy drive - CD drive - Hard drive
Rest your BIOS to default values. Many BIOS will enable users to reset the values to the default settings. If you've tried the above options without success try resetting the BIOS.
Boot from either your emergency repair disk, your bootable Windows CD, or your bootable restore CD. Once boot attempt to repair Windows. If you're able to repair Windows remove the disks and reboot the computer.
If the above fails:
Verify the connections are properly connected to the computer if the hard drive was recently installed or the computer was moved.
If all connections are setup properly and all the above recommendations have been attempted, it is likely that the hard disk drive is bad and it will need to be replaced.
For some reason, some hard disk will be damage due to bad sector and you cannot do anything about it not reinstall any operating system.
If the Hard Disk Drive failed to install the operating system, the hard drive is damaged and cannot be reformat. The only solution is to replace new Hard disk drive to install the operating system.
The manufacturer of the RAID interface-card has software that can be installed to monitor the RAID, and to identify any "failed" disks, and to "rebuild" the RAID array after a new disk-drive has been added to the array.
When a hard disk has bad sectors, these sectors can be fixed by running check disk. This is a temporary fix as the hard disk is nearly worn out and it will get more bad sectors and evenually the hard disk will fail completely.
Bad sectors occur when the magnetic oxide on the disk platters is worn out and data cannot be written or read from these sectors.
To run check disk click Start - My Computer - right click on C Drive and click on Properties - click on Tools tab - then Check Now in Error Checking
I suggest once this has been done, you back up your data and purchase a new hard disk ready to install Windows etc. when the hard disk fails completely. You may want to install a new hard drive before the old hard drive fails completely.
Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different USB cable.
Try connecting it to a different computer.
If it still does not work, either:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter has failed
* the disk-drive has failed
If the former, open the case, and remove the disk-drive,
and temporarily connect this "internal" disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive into any desktop computer, and copy all the files. Or, remove the disk-drive, buy a new "empty" external-adapter, and install your disk-drive into the new case.
If all else fails, search online for "Data Recovery Services".
These type of companies are expensive, but they can "recover" files from almost any hard-drive that has "failed".
It sounds like UBUNTU formated your hard drive where xp does not reconized the drive. When you go into BIOS setting, do you see your hard listed? If so, you should be able to put a clean install of XP to the drive. When you start the install, you must select REFORMAT drive and install XP. If this still fails, you may need to fdisk your drive first using DOS command and reinstall XP. Let us know if you incounter any more problems after doing this. Good Luck.
You need to get a new Hard disk. There is no way to get info off the Hard disk that won't turn in because theres probley a short a an element that failed and burned out. Hope this helped. =)
