Dell 1600N Displays Scanner Locked

I have switched the scanner lock to unlock, but it seems to be broken. The display continues to display "scanner locked". If a service manual is available maybe there is a repair or a "bypass" that can be performed.

Thanks

If the lock mechanism is broken as you say it might be, then it will have to be disassembled to be removed. Unplug it, there is high voltage present to run the scan lamp. Be very careful and deliberate while disassembling, you will have to put it back together, or get someone experienced to do it.

Finding screws under cover and doors or near the bottom are easy, the tough part is popping apart the pieces that interlock with each other. If the latch your looking for is on the back side, then just try to get the back panel off. Even if you can only get it open enough to insert a screwdriver and "break" the latch back out of the way, you will have succeeded. The latch was only needed for shipping.

I have a dell 1600n printer. Though it prints but the copier is not functioning. The copier light does not come up. It brings a command, "Unlock scanner, then press cancel"

1) Remove the label completely from the scanner module by gently pulling it. The scan unlock switch automatically moves FORWARD to the unlock position.
2) NOTE: When you are moving the multi-function printer or do not intend to use it for a long period of time, move the switch BACKWARD to the lock position. To scan or copy a document, the switch must be unlocked.
Please see page 4 of the owners manual for more details. Here's a link in case you've lost yours:

Bc898t all 500 channels are locked out. How to unlock all of them

Locking/Unlocking Banks When you are scanning conventional banks, the scanner displays the digit corresponding to all unlocked banks. To lock out a bank so that the scanner does not scan its channels, press the letter that corresponds to the bank. The bank's letter disappears from the display. To unlock locked-out banks, simply press that bank's letter again. The bank's letter appears on the display and the scanner includes that bank when scanning. Note: You cannot lock out all banks. One bank must be unlocked at all times. Locking/Unlocking Channels To lock out a channel so that the scanner does not stop on it while scanning, press L/O when the scanner is stopped on that channel, or manually select the channel and press L/O. To unlock the channel, manually select it and press L/O again.

The scanner is locked

There's a physical locking-mechanism that is designed to keep the movable parts of the scanner locked into place, while the scanner is being transported. On most scanners, it's either a few screws, or a lever. From the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.dell.com enter '1600' and do a search, and download the Quick Start document, to read the specifics.

"Warming up Please wait" error

Suspect the toner heating element (fuser) may be malfunctioning. Dell may be able to walk you through a "hard reset" that involves opening the front door, turning on an off the printer with certain buttons held down, etc.

Printer scanner is locked

Look at the top of the paper-return tray (when a printed project is completed, the printer rolls is onto the paper-return tray). If you put your hand on the 'ceiling' of the tray, you will notice a blue switch (also visible by looking at the glass when the copy/scanner cover is open--this visible blue switch has a lock/unlock symbol). It is likely in the "locked" position, so just slide it towards you to unlock.
