The restoration is more than likely corrupt. The best solution is to find another restore point, or abort restoration. If your computer fails with an error, you'd either: a. Have brought a backup, 'cause you're reformatting. b. Have a Linux LiveCD or dual-boot OS ready if you REALLY need some files from that computer. Go ask about those on a different question if you need to use them and are confused.

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

How to reset settings

A persistent operating system error on your Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop requires more than just a system restore as there is a problem with a driver that a system restore cannot correct.

A full factory reset of the laptop wipes the hard drive clear of all data including existing driver settings and programs and installs the original operating system back to the hard drive.

Once cleared, previous computer files and programs are non-recoverable.

Press "Power" on the Inspiron 1525, and continuously press "F8" on the keyboard when the Dell logo appears on the laptop's screen.

Press the down arrow to highlight "Repair Your Computer," and press "Enter" to select the highlighted onscreen option.

Click your preferred keyboard layout, and click "Next" to continue with the laptop's restoration process.

Type "administrator" in the username field, click "OK" and click "Dell Factory Tools."

Click "Dell Factory Image Restore," and click "Next." Click the checkbox next to the hard drive reformat confirmation, and click "Next."

Click "Finish" to reboot the OS after the restore process finishes, which can take up to 10 minutes.

Hope this helps.

Dell inspiron 1525 laptop. I need to restore to factory settings. I follow instructions. Does not work. I hit F8 like dell says and before it starts up it take me to reboot screen. Then I hit repair...

It sounds like you've either erased the partition where Dell stores this restoration, or someone else has. The only way to get this back to manufactured state is to request a disc from Dell or re-install the OS.

Have a Dell inspiron 1525 after adding google and some extensions laptop shut down after the restart almost all of my Windows Services wont work or my firewall says it is off but wont let you turn on

Sounds like something got hosed up. i would recommend doing system restore to previous date when this was working fine. you will have to reload software that was installed after the restore date but this should not be hard. Click on start, all programs(programs for vista and windows 7) choose accessories, system tools and restore. chose restore computer to earlier date and proceed. If you cant do it in regular mode reboot pc and on reboot keep on tapping key F8 to go to safe mode and do same steps to do restore. Hope this helps.

Spilled water on my dell insiron 1525 keyboard now when I hit a key it types two letters

Hi there,

Your keyboard has shorted out with the water damage. It can be easily replaced by buying one on eBay for probably less than $20 and using the Service Guide online at Dell Support I am posting right below.

My Dell Laptop Inspiron 1525 won't let me connect to the internet or restore. I can't change anything on my security settings either.

It sounds to me like you have a nasty virus problem. On a friend's computer, download "Malwarebytes" free version and save it to a USB flash drive (memory stick/thumb drive). Start your laptop in Safe Mode by hitting the F8 button right when you're booting up. Once in Safe Mode, install Malwarebytes from the flash drive and run the Quick Scan. Follow the instructions after it finds and lists all malware to remove them. Then, reboot your laptop normally and you should be able to operate normally.

Cant get dell insiron 1525 to restore factory settings

Dell Tec told me to choose "To set up Windows XP now" (with Operating System CD in drive) If it doesn't work try Dell Tech Chat. I kept getting "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file." (I tried to restore to original factory, followed directions, f12 boot from CD but when I get to "Agree to Licensing Agreement" none of the keys work except ESC.) I was able to get on the Dell Tech Chat at http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/chat/hardware_chat?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs (you need your Service Tag) tried same steps but keys would not work so they sent me a new hard drive that I can install myself. Evidently there is no way to fix this. Tech says wireless will work with new hard drive. Is your warranty active? I always get SquareTrade.com (cheaper than most) warranty. They fix or give you what you paid. Everything I buy breaks & sooner than you would think.
