Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

My craftsman electric trimmer keeps feeding and the line gets longer and wrapped around the outside tapping part of the trimmer. This is the 2d trimmer I have bought to develop this problem. The other was a Toro- both electric.

You have the string wound the wrong direction on the spool.

Need to reassemble 2-line trimmer head

Best way is to feed a length that will fit on the spool (for .80 you can probably get at least 10 feet). straighten and place the two ends side-by. Essentially you have two equal lengths). feed each end into the spool holes. Now it is a matter or managing the two lengths so that they do not cross over each other as you wrap the two lengths around the spool. Keep the two lengths parallel to each other as you wrap the lines slowly around the spool. Start from the bottom and work your way to the top. Work slowly. Then, while maintaining a bit of pressure, work tour way back down. Make sure you avoid allowing the lines to cross one another. Use your thumb and index finger to keep the lines parallel to one another. Keep the process going from bottom to top and back to bottom, adding another layer of line each time. When both ends are approximately 8 inches long, maintain pressure on the line wrapped around the spool and feed the ends into the body of the edger. Carefully bring the spool to the center of the body cavity, ensuring the spring is centered over the screw hole. Insert and tighten the crew which is attached to the bonce head. When the unit is in operation, the head is bounced on the ground to release and advance addition line. Hope that helps. Bob.

Flymo electric power trim..dual auto feed line keeps getting wound around the drive shaft...bloody annoying any suggestions.. Ian (M)

Most trimmers have a cutter on the shield by the spool. This cuts excess line off to prevent it from wrapping around the shaft. If the shield has been removed or the cutter is dull it will allow extra line to wrap around the shaft.

How to replace trimmer line ?

1. Remove the cap on the trimmer head, it unscrews.

2. The spool comes off, and on the inside of the spool there is a small hole, this is where you will start your trimmer line. It it will hold it in place while you wrap it. There is also arrows on the spool showing the direction that you need to wrap your spool.

3. Insert the line in the hole and start to wrap the line in the directions of the arrows, try to keep the line in rows, or else the line may bind and you will have to do it all over again.

4. Feed the line through the retainer and reinstall the spool by lining up the retainer and the slot on the outside portion on the trimmer head, the screw back on the trimmer head and you will be ready to trim.

Homelite trimmer, gas, string - y is the string wrapping itself around the head of the trimmer?

The line on my new 26cc Homelite would also feed out by itself. That started me thinking the line was wound backwards. I wrapped the line in the opposite direction as was shown on the bump feed reel and now the dang thing works although the bump feed needs to be "bumped" pretty hard to work. Is it possible that the reel was manufactured with the (string direction) arrows pointing the wrong direction? The new 26cc unit is also underpowered compared to my older 25cc trimmer.

Have Craftsman gas weedwacker double line ran out.

take off knob that holds on the spool on bottom of weedwacker, remove spool, there are notches around the outside splines on the bottom of the spool. (the bottom is the end that fits up into the spool housing. there are 2 little holes opposite one another on the spool - one on each section. Cut two lengths of line about 6 feet long. stick line into first hole (near bottom of unit) wrap line around spool. once wrapped line gets short - to the point where you cant wrap it anymore - stick the end into one of the notches - do the same with the other line - insert spool back into housing - make sure spring is attached to the spool and lines come out of the holes in the housing - reinsert knob and tighten - make sure as you are doing this you unseat the ends of the lines off of the notches on the spool and they are out through the housing - tighten knob and you should be good to go

18v cordless string trimmer will not stop feeding line

Some of the trimmers recommend a certain size line, if you have one of these that let line out as needed, the speed at which the trimmer cuts will let out line as needed. If you have too small of line the drag for the friction let-out you will spoll all the line out. Make sure the line is the right size, They come in alot of sizes, anywhere from .060" to .125" line thickness so make sure you have the right size line!
