How to Hook up an Equalizer

There is no tape monitor or and kind of loop for the e.q.
The pre amp output of the equalizer plugs into the tape input on the back of the receiver.. And tape out of the receive plugs into the input of the equalizer. Your receiver has the tape input and output. You will have to switch the tape monitor on in the front panel..
Are you saying the equalizer has no output or input.? Please list the make and model number of the equalizer.
I don't know if you are seeing my comments or not, but I will try it one more time. There is NO tape monitor period. That is why I made sure to put the model number of the unit in the question. This model has a selector knob labeled "record out/ zone 2" so you can send the signal to whatever input you have the main selector set to . But, no return and it is seemingly impossible to connect an e.q. to this design ( Just so you know, I am a stage tech and do lighting and sound for major tours. So, this isn't my first rodeo. Anything obvious or improbable, I have tried. There may be no way to do it.

I suggest you run self diag. press [FM/AM] key + [Input mode] key and press the [power/standby] switch.
ps prt = power supply problem
dc prt = shorted output or leakly cap in channel
tmp prt means to hot on heatsink
you'll likely have to measure the resistances of the output FETs to find a short,

your main lead wire contains only two core, could be brown, black, anyway..open the cover of the unit, and change the cord, get three core main wire, and take the old one off, replace the other one, which should have earth, you can screw it to the transfomer base, try this

Assuming you have the same Model Variant ( I'm not sure if Yamaha varies model from Country to Country) I just switch mine to effect off ( 2 Channel) to remove the surround component so that only A or B speaker pairs work.That should fix it unless I am mistaken.

I don't know about the front panel, but I am looking at a diagram of the receiver with a tape deck connected to the back panel with an 'in' and an 'out'. I can't figure out how to send the diagram, but I think I got the address for it. I think maybe I did get copy the diagram, so maybe the issue is the on front panel .
Yes, it has an in seperate from the out. The out is part of the selector switch that decides what you are going to record the signal onto.. But there is no retorn since the selector is seperate from the input selection. You only select where you are sending it to. There is no monitoring period. No loop since selector 1 selects your only input. Selector 2 decides where you are sending the signal from the input to be recorded. EXAMPLE: I am listening trrough input 1 to the dvd. Input 2 is set to tape. It sends the dvd to tape, but thats it. There is no return.
Well that sucks!!! Give me the old fashioned audio equipment!
