SOURCE: Garage door opener motor will not open garage door

It sounds like you did a really good job! My Craftsman 1/2 hp gar. dr. opener has a red reset button on it on the l/h side as you are looking at the light/motor from the garage door opening. You have to take the light cover off to be able to see it. My reset button is on the same side as the ground wire. You might check the ground wire while you're there. I really hope that this fixes it for you (and me). I'm quite sure it will as you know your way around the garage door opener already. Good Luck and Let me Know (Please) if it fixed it or not. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Have a Good Day!

SOURCE: craftsman garage door keypad

The blinking on your keypad simply means that a code of some sort was sent. Whether it be the right on or not. Lets try to reprogram the unit. Press the colored learn button on the motor head and then within 30 seconds enter in the 4 digit code followed by the up/down action button. The light bulb should flash to let you know it has been accepted. Wait 5 minutes and try. If it does not work replace the keypad.

Where does the wires hook from motor to where? Automatic Doorman 455

Is the door opener motor bad? You say, "the wires"--is there a plug on the end of the wires that can be plugged into an outlet? If so, thy plugging it into an extension cord instead of the outlet in the garage ceiling and see if you still trip a breaker. If you do, it's a problem in the opener. There are things to do to locate the source of the problem. It the breaker trips instantly when you press the button then there's a dead short somewhere. Does the motor get warm or hum before the breaker trips? If so, then maybe the door mechanism is locked up and the motor cant turn. Did you check to see if your garage door is locked?

Reset after a power outage

A couple possibilities- check for a tripped circuit breaker in your main breaker box, a surge may have tripped these or a fuse internal to the receivers (the inside units) was blown for the same reason

To prevent this kind of damage to all of your wired electronics, consider having a 'whole house' surge protector installed.
Cost: ~$200-$400 dollars and all units with which I am familiar are supplied with insurance against losses for 5-10 years and $10-25.000 in replacement cost.

Blowing breaker

In general house hold circuit breaker of the house is 15 Amps or 20 Amps.

Either you have defected (weak) circuit breaker and wiring or bad Microwave oven.

The 99.99 % house hold Microwave ovens pull less than 15 Amps. They may have internal ceramic 15A fuse or 15 Amp internal circuit breaker.

To isolate your problem:

1. Plug your Microwave oven to different areas (different electrical circuit) if the different circuit breaker still trips... your Microwave oven has a short - Most of them has a small ceramic fuse 15 amps fuse.-also check some inter lock switches at door .

2. If the Microwave oven works Ok then you may have:

2a. You may overload the existing electrical circuit, try to unplug some other appliances

2b. You may have bad electrical outlet receptacle (Replace it with the same type , - may need helps from licensed electrician)

2c. Weak or defect house hold circuit breaker. (Replace it with the same type , brand - may need helps from licensed electrician)

I have a newly installed pump (1 month old) it is tripping the breaker.

If your pool has a salt water chlorinator and the salt level is too high then it could trip the circuit breaker as the combined load from the salt water chlorinator and pump motor exceeds the circuit breaker rating.

My e wave microwave appears to be in fine working order until the door is opened. It then trips the breaker and ceases working. Ater the house breaker is reset, the power is restored to the microwave...

You may have a short circuit on the INTERIOR LIGHT BULB circuit in your microwave.

This might explain why the breaker trips every time you open the door.

If so, you would have to unplug and disassemble the unit in order to access the wires and light bulb socket inside the case in order to troubleshoot and repair the problem.

If you are unfamiliar with safe electrical troubleshooting and repair procedures, please be extremely careful or consider hiring an electrician to do the work. There are some hazardous components inside which remain dangerous even after the unit is unplugged.

Good luck.

Why does my 100 amp main get so hot the black wire is starting to melt, should'nt the breaker trip if there is that much draw?

You need an electrician before there is a fire.
If the breaker is not tripping, then the breaker is bad.

Act now before the heat damages the box and you need full replacement.
Absolutely put the metal cover back over the breaker box and keep the door closed.
Move all flammables away fro breaker box area.
Put a smoke detector right there.
Put a fire extinguisher nearby.
You don't put water on an electrical fire.

Before the electrician gets there, turn off as many electrical devices as you can.
Don't run all at one time.
Run just when needed.
Electric water heater.
Space heaters.
Vent fans.
Electric Stove.
Electric Oven.
Microwave.
Heat AC.
Electric Dryer.
Washing machine.
Power tools.
Big screen TV.
The outdoor lights, and swimming pool pump.
Turn off as many indoor lights as possible.

Now the freezers and refrigerator have to stay on.
Clean out the grilles so they run more efficiently.

Reducing your power consumption will be good practice.
When you call the electrician, tell him the brand and amperage of your main breaker.

If the whole box needs replacement, you might want to upgrade the service to 150Amp.
Some areas, it's code that old panels have to be upgraded to more amperage ... but the electrician will know the details. Call local electric supply house to double-check what the electrician tells you.

Circuit breaker only half working - reddish flag?

A red indicator means a circuit overload has tripped the breaker. You mentioned a heater? Does the circuit tripping coincide with the heater running? There may be too much load on that circuit.
Contact the original electrician to see if he will come check it out ( licensed, reputable electrician should have no problem with this). If he gives you the run around, find another. Was any aluminum wiring found in the home inspection?
