Jumper settings when used as a slave in a HP pavilion 6835

There are 3 pairs of pins:
* MA(ster)
* SL(ave)
* C(able)S(elect)

Move the jumper to connect the two 'SL' pins, if you want to use the drive as a "slave" drive.

Or, move the jumper to the 'CS' pins, and the drive will auto-configure itself.

Short the BIOS and power up. If your PC is capable of 2 Hard Drives then you can also experiment making one drive master & slave to check your new hard disk.............sodeep

Jumper settings

the junper setting on a hard drive are:
Master - if this is the only hard drive in the computer, with the operating system on it.
Slave - If the hard drive is used with another hard drive in the computer.
The instructions are printed on the hard drive.

Samsung SP0802N 80GB Slave

Go into the control panel. Press administrative tools. Select computer management. Under storage select disk management. Look for the hard drive. Make sure there isn't an additional partition on the drive. If there is you can change and delete partitions on this drive as well.

Master hard disk s,m,a.r.t.status bad,backup and replace

A failure message from the SMART system of this nature indicates that a catastrophic hard drive failure could be imminent. Without delay, back up ANY data you want to keep. This error isn't going to go away, and is being reported by the drive controller.

Whilever you can access the drive, move any data you want onto another media (such as DVD or external USB hard drive) because chances are it's not going to work much longer. You need to look at buying a new hard drive as soon as you possibly can, and migrating the data to it.

Files and Settings Transfer Wizard will be able to backup your data to another media.
