I bought the Acer Aspire from Wal-mart a few weeks ago and my speakers will not work. I've tried everything and had a technician from Cavalier to look at them, he couldn't figure out the problem either. I want a solution to this PROBLEM.

I bought an ACER Aspire AST 180 EA381B from Walmart as well and it also has no sound. It says that it is not muted and that the volume is turned up but no sound comes out. This is so frustrating. I am going to return it if I can't solve this problem. Sigma Shiver can you please retype your solution in ordinary layman's terms. I mean make it super simple for those of us that are not great with computers. Step by step directions. Please and thank-you.

Ok everyone i will tell you whats wrong and how to fix it the problem is. Windows vista runs a sound driver when installed that does not work with real-tek high definition audio. You will have to download the driver from there website and install them to get any sound from your pcs. I have listed the link to there website driver download for high definition audio you must check the box next to accept and hit next pick your windows os and download it. Then install system should ask to reboot after install. When the computer comes back up if you still have no sound pull out you audio jacks and plug them back in this will fix the problem after the install.

I had to plug speakers into the front jack indicated for headphones. On the Acer T180 its the pale green hole on front of CPU. This only works for sound from the system itself and CDs. When I try to play DVDs, I get no sound from either outlet in the front or any of the outlets in the back. So, try the headphone jack in the front.

I had the exact problem. You need powered speakers, not ones that you just plug into the computer but ones that plug into the computer AND into a power supply as well. Now I have full sound.

got windows to instal the drivers the sound worked fine.

Recently bought a Lenovo Lenovo G550 laptop. Can

If I remember correctly, those speakers were supplied with some Gateway computers equipped with a digital soundcard, and the speakers take only digital input.

Take a look at the input plug and compare it to these:

If yours looks like the mono plug, your speakers will only work with the original digital card. Plug them into your new computer and you'll get nothing out of them.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

Only one of my speakers work

Make sure the cable is all the way in and that your using the right jack. The green jack is usually the correct one. Make sure any other speaker wires are hooked up properly.
