Factory reset

  • To 'factory reset' an external hard drive you will need to do something called reformatting. This will wipe all the data and return the drive to a as new state as far as information goes.

  • Begin by plugging the drive into a PC and find the hard drive in the "My Computer" window.
  • Right-click on the hard drive (It normally shows up as a letter like E or F ect.)

In the right click menu there should be a "Format" option, click it and chose to reformat the drive in NTFS format, this is the format commonly used for most hard drives.

If you get confused at any point you can do a quick google search for 'reformat a external hard drive'

    Hope that helps!

How do i replace the wifi card in my GD6000?

Most times it is either on the bottom of the laptop behind one of the covers that has screw for you to remove. Or it might be under the Keyboard/Palmrest area which will require you to take the laptop apart.

Why not try a usb wireless adapter. Get the hiro brand which is real small from Tiger Direct.

Below is a link to the hiro usb wireless adapter. It's small and very powerful.

    Most likely, hard drive failure.
If a portable, re-seat the drive, then reset the bios defaults, and see if the hard drive is detected.
If a desktop/Tower, re-seat the cable connections to the drive and the motherboard, reset the bios and see if the drive is detected.
If the "Noise" from the drive is a grinding sound, a repeating Click, or a laser sound similiar to a star wars movie then almost guaranteed drive failure.

Chris Hingee is absolutely correct. Even if you reset the laptop bios password, you will not be able to reset the hard drive bios password. That old hard drive is your new paper weight after you purchase a new hard drive.

How do I completely reset my external hard drive

    1. You need to check how much free disk space is available on your laptop.
    2. You need to check what duplicated files you have on both the laptop and the external hard drive and which is the latest version.
    3. You need to decide to move the latest versions of the data files from the external hard drive to the laptop. This automatically delete these from the external hard drive. The older versions on the external hard drive can be deleted.
    4. Now you need to check how much data is stored on your external hard drive.
    5. If the amount of data stored on the external hard drive exceeds the available disk space on the laptop, then you cannot copy these files to the laptop.
    6. If you have sufficient disk space on the laptop you can copy the data from the external hard drive to the laptop. I suggest you make a folder to copy this data to it.
You can now delete all the data from the external hard drive or you can format the external hard drive to make a clean external hard drive.
