SOURCE: stihl bg 55 blower runs good for 5 min. then loses power

1) carburetor gaskets/diaphragms may need to be replaced

2) ignition coil may be breaking down when hot

3) check compression when cold, then after it stops, when hot

4) could have a vacuum/pressure leak

*I would investigate carb first

Why does it run for 10 mins, then stops?

Loosen Gas cap and see if that helps. Many times the Gas tank Vent gets clogged. When engine runs, it creates a suction and starves the engine of gas.

If the engine was stored with gas in it, sometimes the Rubber seat in the carburetor deforms and wont let the gas flow into the Carb Bowl at a fast enough rate to keep up with the running engine. The bowl empties (after 9 minutes) and the engine quits. Takes a while for the bowl to refill (5 minutes).

Blower shots off when trigger is pulled?

Try applying about half choke and see if engine will run. If it does than I expect the fuel is stale and if the unit has recently come out of storage the fuel in the carburetor has evaporated while in storage leaving a residue behind

This residue restricts the fuel flow and the engine runs lean. Appling choke compensates for the restrictions in the fuel passages.
Replace the fuel in the tank with fresh fuel.
Run the unit with partial coke if required.
After some run time the carburetor (from the engine vibration and clean fuel flow) will likely clear eliminating the need for the choke..

Ready mix fuel if the machine is not used often is available from Lowes or Home Depot. This fuel has the oil mixed and does not contain ethanol one of the causes of the carburetor contamination.

Runs for awile...but then blaa blaaa a dead plug...wait fifteen minutes and she runs again, perfect for a little wile then blaa blaaa blaaaa all over again...all the way has lights...

check your vent on your fuel tank cap and hose must be open or will pull a vacume. make sure there is nothing in tank that could shut off fuel like a leaf. make sure the petcock on tank flowes unrestriced through the screen. if you have a fuel filter make sure it flows free. check coil run it till it quits. then feel the coil with bare hand if to hot to hold on to replace it is breaking down.

I am having running problems with my 2004 Yamaha Roadstar. I drove the bike at spring break 2009. Bike sat until yesterday. I tried to start it but the battery was dead and the gas was bad. Recharged the...

You have done a good job ... pat yourself on the back ... following that, go get some injector cleaner and add an appropriate amount to your tank and go for a ride. Do what ever you need to do to keep from pushing it home. I think this will solve your trouble.

May I recommend a fuel stabilizer for your fuel for future periods of time when you will not be riding? StaBil is a good brand but there are others as well.

My craftsman 205mph leaf blower starts and runs for 4 min stalls

Replace the fuel filter that is inside the fuel tank. Purchase a can of Seafoam Motor Treatment. Ask for it at most auto parts stores and WalMart. Pour in the correct amount as listed in the instructions, and fill the tank with fuel. Start the blower and run it wide open. If your problem is a fuel system problem this may very well solve the problem. This is one of the best fuel system cleaners you can buy.

Honda 5.5 HP starts & dies

had the same problem with my Honda engined mower. you can't see it easily, but there is a very fine screen in the outlet of the fuel tank that gets blocked and fuel will not pass thru it fast enough to refill carb. remove tank and pour fuel in another container . Use a flexible plastic tube in the outlet or make a small wire hook to penetrate the screen,or preferably, remove it. confirm that fuel flows freely thru it, remove any debris, and reassemble. Change spark plug, add fresh fuel, and test. best of luck!!!! Ray
