How do I enable WEP encryption

Configuring WEP on the router First, let's log on to the router.
  1. Open your internet browser and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. This is the default IP address of the browser.
  2. In the login box that appears type 'admin' (without quotes) in both fields. 'admin' is the default username and password.
Write down the SSID
  1. In the Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings menu you will see the Service Set Identifier or SSID. The SSID differentiates one wireless network from another. It is the 'network name'. Write it down, or copy paste it to a text file. You will need it later. You can first set your own SSID if you like.
In the Linksys WRT54G router you will find the wireless security options under Wireless > Wireless Security. This page allows you to set wireless encryption options.
'WRT54G The Wireless Security page allows you to generate a strong network key. Here is how.
  1. Select WEP in the security mode dropdown menu.
  2. Set the Default Transmit Key to 1
  3. Select 128 bits hex digits from the WEP encryption dropdown menu.
  4. Enter any phrase or word in the Passphrase field and press the 'generate' button. The passphrase is just used to generate keys. It has no other purpose.
  5. Copy-paste the first key to a text file or write it down.
  6. Click Save Settings.
Your computer will now be disconnected from the router. You may see a 'page not found' warning or some other error message in your webbrowser. Your router now demands that computers that connect to it use WEP encryption and the correct WEP key. In other words: you have succesfully secured your network.

Downloaded files from audio Cds as .WMA files. MP3 wont play them, states "Unknown format".

Assuming you've used Windows Media Player to rip them, you'll need to bring up the Options dialog box. Click Tools > Options (you may need to press Alt or right click on a blank space in WMP to bring up the main menu.
From there, click on the 'Rip Music' tab and find the Format dropdown under 'Rip Settings'. Change 'Windows Media Audio' to 'MP3' and click OK. You'll now need to re-rip all of the music and re-transfer it to your device.

When i put my 8 gb sd memory card into the computer drive it will not pop up. and when i click on the drive it says "could not function because of an i/o error"

  1. Click the Start button
  2. Right click My Computer
  3. Select Manage from the resulting menu
  4. In the Computer Management window, select Device Manager
  5. In the right pane, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
  6. Identify your CD/DVD drive in the expanded menu and right click the appropriate drive
  7. Select Properties
  8. In the Properties windowsmag-glass_10x10.gif, click the Advanced Settings tab
  9. In the Transfer Mode box that represents your CD/DVD drive (typically Device 1); open the dropdown menu and select PIO Only
  10. Click ok and exit all windows
If this does not resolve your issue, then you will need to go back using the above procedure and change the Device 1 in step #9 back to "DMA if available". Then, change Device 0 to "PIO Only" in the Transfer Mode box.
For reference, the Device 0 is the Primary IDE Channel and the Device 1 is the secondary IDE Channel.
After you change your settings, make sure you restart your system so that the computer recognizes the changes you have made. After you reboot, check the settings to make sure they are in effect. If they are, your device should now work properly.

This question is listed under the wrong device, but:
Here's what happened: When you first synced your player to Windows Media Player, you may have set up the automatic sync option. When this option is selected, Windows Media Player will add EVERY song, picture, etc from your Library on your computer to the player. Now, every time you sync you device, it adds every new file from your computer into the player automatically. It will even delete songs from your player that were on there before.

Go into Windows Media Player 11 with your player connected to the computer (it will automatically sync and add new files one last time), move the mouse cursor over to the sync tab; a small black arrow will appear under the word "Sync"; click on the small black arrow and a dropdown menu will appear; select "Portable media device" from the dropdown menu, and another dropdown menu will appear; select "Set Up sync"; a window will appear with some information on your device - uncheck the box that says "Sync this device automatically"; click Finish; This will eliminate the problem of Windows always adding/deleting songs/files you don't want into your player.
