Where is the function key on the on HP keyboard

There is no single function button.
There are 12 function keys.
They are labeled F1 through F12.
They comprise the very top row of the keyboard.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Where do i find out what the F1-F12 keys mean on

usually they are there for bot up purposes. depending on the manufacturer of the computer and motherboard they do different things. you don't use them in day to day computing.

Symbols

You hit a keystroke combination. You'll have to press the Fn key in the lower left side of your keyboard and one of the special function keys (in a HP, I think it's something like F11 or F12--look at the symbols on the keyboard. Anyway, that combo locks the special characters on. Just hit it again to get back to normal typing.

How do I find the functions for F1 -F12 buttons on my HP keyboard

Those functions are not set by the operating system or the keyboard, they are set by individual software programs and could have a different function for each program. Typically F1 is help and F5 is refresh.

Thanks for your support

Remove the keyboard screws first, the screws that secure the keyboard have keyboard symbols next to the screws.
Some Compaq/HP have slide catches along the top edge of the keyboard between the number keys and the Function keys. Usually the slide catches are located between the ESC & F1 key, F4 & F5 key, F8 & F9 keys, F12 & delete keys. Slide these catches towards the front edge of the keyboard (ie. towards the space bar) you should be able to lift the keyboard clear. Don't forget to unclip the ribbon cables on the keyboard.

HP Probook 6560b BIOS doesn't recognize working WD SATA HDD. I have verified that it works in another computer and two other SATA HDD's work in my Probook. I have a WD Black 500GB SATA HDD (model #WD5000BPKX) that was the Kubuntu OS drive in my old HP Probook 6550b and works flawlessly when I test it in my husband's HP DV2000, but the BIOS on my current HP Probook 6560b does not recognize it. Running a HD test within the BIOS returns no drive installed, however booting from Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 Live USB sticks shows the HDD in the OS's file manager and partition manager, and another (Seagate) SATA HDD works flawlessly in this laptop. I have restored the BIOS to defaults and the version showing within the BIOS - F08 - is newer than the one shown for Linux on HP's driver site. Are you aware of any incompatibility with this particular model of HDD? I have VirtualBox but no Windows computer, if it is advised to update the BIOS to the current F67 revision shown for Windows computers on the HP support site. EDIT: Solved. I had no access to a Windows computer, but figured for whatever reason the BIOS in a computer that shipped with a 500GB SATA HDD wasn't recognizing a 500GB SATA HDD. So I installed the original Windows Vista Basic on the older 320GB HDD, downloaded the current HP BIOS update for that OS (on my husband's Ubuntu computer, since of course Windows didn't recognize all of my hardware), copied it to the 320GB HDD, and installed it without a hitch. The Probook 6560b is now running under a fresh install of Kubuntu 18.04 on the 500GB SATA HDD that wasn't recongnized prior to that update. Maybe not the simplest way to resolve it, but at least it's fixed. Hope this helps someone else with an older laptop not recognizing their SATA HDD. :)
