Question about Maxtor OneTouch II 300 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

I can't access my Maxtor One Touch II

I had multiple data points stored that I can no longer see.

When I open the software to even attempt another back up, it does not even see a potential drive to back up.

When going through My Computer on XP, I click on the drive and it says insert a disk.

I have a Maxtor 1 tb external harde drive with images on that recognises being unstalled but doesn't come up to open

Most likely it has died. Last hope attempt: connect it directly to the motherboard of a desktop, if even there it cannot be accessed then it's dead for good and the data on it is lost.

I have a Maxtor One Touch II. I went to backup my computer and got an error massage; " Grooming backup set restore point failed; error 2242". I "looked into the system" and could not see any restore...

You indicated that ..."most of the drive's capacity is used."
That may be your problem. When you make a backup you need room for the software to create temporary files before completeing the backup. These temp files are deleted once the backup is complete. There's no real rule regarding the amount of extra space to have available, but I use 10% of the total size of the backup and have not had any problems. I'm also backing up to Maxtor One Touch II.

Hello, I was accessing data on my Maxtor One Touch II when it froze suddenly. Couldn't access data anymore and not even close programme. I shut down the computer and when I now plugg it in, the computer...

I had this same thing happen to mine. I took the drive out and hooked it up directly to my computer. It was gone and there was no hope for it.If you can do this, it is what I would suggest. They have generic drives in them that will fit most any computer cables. When I did it, my computer would not find it. Those drives, I found out, were notorious for this. Hope this helps.

Data disappeared overnight

I've seen a lot of flack about these puppies lately. It's usually due to the external enclosure, the harddrive is in, and not the harddrive itself.

It is for this reason, that I suggest that you take the harddrive out of this enclosure, and install it into a decent, affordable, new external enclosure.
External enclosures are relatively cheap!

The harddrive inside the Maxtor One Touch II is a desktop size harddrive. It's a 3.5 inch one.
(3 and a half inches across in width)
It is a Sata harddrive.

These are examples of external enclosures for a Sata 3.5 inch harddrive,|c:2778|&Sort=0&Recs=10
(My recommendation would be the Vantec NexStar 3 NST-360 Su-BL)

This external enclosure has instructions, is easy to install the harddrive, and uses a USB cable just like your old one.

Maxtor One Touch II - installation Software

I have a disk that worked for me and I am running windows xp. I also have the website address that is supposed to have the 98 drivers which could work perhaps.

Guess you could try them first and if that doesnt work I could perhaps make a backup of the disk/package/mail/ worth anything?

Maxtor OneTouch II 300Gb can't recover data after a system restore

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.

The way I solved my problem was to make sure when I restored Windows to the default settings that I did it up to the same support packs and hot fixes then when backing up the system with the Maxtor HD. It took me many days to figure this out... was written it the Maxtor HD documentation and it works fine.

Hope this helps.
