SOURCE: sewing machine

I had the same problem. And I read and read the instructions (I'm sure you did, too)! However, I finally realized that Step #5 is the key. Turn the stitch selector to the reverse arrow and back to the bottonhole symbol. this seems to re-set the machine. It worked for me!

SOURCE: How do you sew button holes?

I am assuming that you have marked where you want the button hole to be. Here is the link to the manual for the 5050.
446_5040_5050[1].pdf The instructions for making a buttonhole are on page 36

SOURCE: machine will not complete a buttonhole, keeps showing error code 6L. No error code listed in manual. Machine will only do first half of buttonhole and then shows code and stops.

I've been looking too and I found here http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=18328that you need to put the bar behind the needle threader down. I think they call it a button hole stop? I don't know, but it worked. I didn't even know it existed. But it solved my problem. On my Kenmore it looks like a black lever and you pull it down. It tells the button-holer that you are at the end of the hole and it needs to backup. nifty, kind of.

SOURCE: I cant get the machine to sew a buttonhole.

I am not familiar with your machine, but some buttonhole attachments require a lever be lowered and inserted into a tab.

Review your manual to see if a step was overlooked.

SOURCE: I am trying to sew a button hole with my Euro Pro

My sister in law has this same machine and she has followed the directions exactly, but one buttonhole side will be fine and the other side will not. Then the next one will be tiny, as in 1/8". I have a copy of the manual for this machine and will email it to you for free, mvd011244@msn.com
You can call Euro Pro, at 1-800-361-4639 but they only told my sister in law to send the machine to them, but they are in Canada and I have no idea how much it would cost. Good luck

I'm trying to sew my first buttonhole. It sews briefly then 6L comes on the computer and it won't complete the buttonhole What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you pull down the buttonhole lever from the underside of the machine (near where the needle threader is) If you don't do this, the machine will make a few stitches and then stop. with error 6L.

thanks for using fixya.

Kenmore 385 model Automatic Button Hole Apparatus Jams Thread?

Practice and practice some more! Use the same fabric and interfacing as your project and a NEW needle (the correct needle) This is for the Sears Kenmore 385 automatic button hole maker. Make sure you pull the bobbin thread through the Guide Block - it is that simple. Make sure you pull your thread to the back of the machine though the presser foot slot - the correct presser foot. Account for both thread tails before starting to sew. Keep thread tails to the back of the machine 4-5", insert fabric under presser foot keeping thread tails clear. Mark button hole and sew.

LED display on Janome Sewing Machine reads SP

SP means Spool Pin. It is currently in position to wind a bobbin. Move the bobbin winder pin to the left and SP should disappear.
