SOURCE: Makita MAC2200 runs fine (with new Manifold Switch

I have worked on many makita compressors and have run-across this problem on a few of them. Your compressor has a check valve that is supposed to hold tank pressure after the switch reaches set pressure. There is an unloader valve built into the pressure switch that releases the pressure in the discharge hose after the unit shuts off. The unloader allows the compressor to restart with-out any pressure in the discharge line. If the brass check valve is leaking pressure back into the system, air will leak out of the unloader valve. Follow the discharge line to the tank and you will see the brass check valve. To test valve for fault, run the compressor till it builds around 80 psi and unplug the unit from the wall outlet. Remove the 1/4" hose connector from the check valve and check for air leaking out of the valve. If it is leaking you can order form www.toolpartsdirect.com. or call the makita 1-800 number. The price is about the same. Good Luck on your repair.

It sounds to me like your regulator is shot. It is the knob you have been turning in the (-) direction. The gauge reading 120 is the regulated pressure and the gauge reading 130 should be the tank pressure. You can find a new regulator from any Ace Hardware store.

What kind of oil do use for it.

There is special oil available for compressors. It should be available at all better hardware outlets. On small domestic type compressors with aluminuim cylinders it is not advisable to use automotive oil.

Your compressor may not be unloading completely. Check for leak at intank check valve. Follow the airline from pump to tank. Remove the airline from he brass valve, with air in the tank spray soapy water to check for leak, replace as needed. If no leak the examing the pressure switch where 1/4 tubing connects. There you will find a small lever that opens a stem to unload air from airline. You can test the function by running the pump then switching off at the pressure switch, listen for release of air. If works ok then not enough power is reaching the compressor. Use very little or no cord and do not overload plug with other tools.

Not normal. You possibly have bad rings on your piston, or some wear on the cylinder walls. The best solution is generally to have a competent shop do a rebuild and reseal on the unit... it will cost a little bit, but the guarantee on their work can save you some cash if it starts acting up again.

Locks up on restart untill the pressure. is down around 50 lbs.and kicks out the breaker

The pressure bleed valve is not working when the compressor shuts off. It is supposed to drain pressure from the compressor air line to the check valve and pressure regulator switch so that the compressor restarts with low pressure in the output line.
