PC will not read CD's on DVD drives

My PC will not read CD's (CD-ROMs nor music CDs) on either my external DVD-R drive nor my internal CD+- RW DVD rom drive. But it will read and play a DVD. And my external burner passed a read wirte test from the manufacturer.

What gives?

my acer 4520 cd rom is not working well when i press cd roms butten its not *** out & also in my computer its tht cd rom icon is not showing so plz give me the solution asap....
