How do I replace the ignition lock cylinder assembly in a Toyota T100

Instructions
  1. Removing the Cylinder
    • Lift the hood and prop it open. Disconnect both battery cables from their terminals. Wait at least three minutes for all residual electricity to discharge before you begin working near the airbag.
    • 2Locate the two airbag attaching screws, one on each side of the steering wheel. Pry off the plastic covers to reveal a Torx screw. Use a Torx screwdriver to loosen these two screws, which you can't remove completely. They will stop when fully retracted and remain attached to the steering wheel.

    • 3Lift the airbag out of the steering wheel. Disconnect the airbag wires from the harness by lifting up the plastic tabs on each side and pulling the two sections apart. Place the airbag face up in a safe location.
    • 4Unplug the horn electrical connector, which you will see once you remove the airbag.
    • 5Point the front wheels straight ahead. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut using a socket. Place a mark on the steering wheel and the steering wheel shaft so you will be able to realign them during reassembly.
    • 6Attach the steering wheel puller. There are bolt holes on each side of the steering wheel shaft. Screw the bolts on the puller into these holes and turn the puller handle clockwise to force the steering wheel off the shaft.
    • 7Remove the steering column covers by detaching the two screws on the front of the column. You will see these once you remove the steering wheel. There is one additional screw under the steering column. Pry off the ignition switch bezel. This is the plastic piece that surrounds the ignition cylinder. You should be able to pull it off using your fingers. If not, use a small flat-head screwdriver.
    • 8Unplug the connector from the ignition switch. This connector simply pulls out of the wiring harness, without any clips to remove.
    • 9Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position. Insert a small screwdriver into the hole located on the bottom of the ignition switch casing to depress the release button. With the button depressed, use the key to pull the cylinder out of the casing.
    Installing the Cylinder
    • 10Insert the key into the new cylinder and turn it to the "ACC" position. Insert the cylinder into the casing. When it seats, you should hear and/or feel a click. Try to pull the cylinder out. If you cannot do so, it is properly seated. Reconnect the ignition switch wire to the wiring harness. Snap the plastic ignition bezel back into place.
    • 11Replace the steering column covers and the three screws.
    • 12Place the steering wheel back over the steering wheel shaft, ensuring that the marks you made earlier are aligned.Turn the handle of the steering wheel puller counterclockwise until the steering wheel is fully seated. Detach the puller. Replace the steering wheel retaining nut.
    • 13Connect the horn wires.
    • 14Connect the airbag wires to the wiring harness and place the airbag into the steering wheel. Tighten the Torx screws on each side of the steering wheel and replace their covers.
    • 15Reconnect the battery cables.

How to take sterring wheel off

remove the housing on the steering column, may need a star bit on some vehicles, remove screws on the back of the steering wheel holding the horn/cover on. (sometimes the front of the steering wheel just snaps on and off depending on the depiction of vehicle) after removing airbag/horn/cover or what have you, then the bolts fastening the wheel to the steering column can be removed
note: always a good idea to disconnect the batt. when working with wiring, especially when it comes to airbags.

REMOVING AUDI A4 SEERING WHEEL

For this procedure you will need a 6mm Allen key or socket, long no. 1 phillips screwdriver, 24mm socket with extension and ratchet handle.

Park the vehicle and make sure the front wheels are straight and the steering wheel centred. Remove the negative battery terminal (make sure you have the radio code first!). Under no circumstances is the airbag to be removed with the battery still connected. Serious injury can result!!

Loosen the two 6mm Allen bolts on the back of the steering wheel and CAREFULLY remove the airbag by pulling straight out on the orange connector on the back of the airbag. Always store the airbag, when removed from the vehicle, with the side facing the driver in the UP position, preferably out of the vehicle.

Loosen and remove the 24mm nut in the centre of the steering wheel. Make note of the position of the wheel relative to the steering shaft with a marker or scribe. Do not remove the steering wheel from the shaft as yet. Next remove the two phillips screws from the recessed holes in the bottom steering column cover. Next, remove the upper steering column cover and disconnect the two wiring connectors that come from the back of the steering wheel. Carefully remove the wires from the retainers on the steering column. With those two wires disconnected, remove the steering wheel by pulling it straight off towards you. Place the steering wheel on a bench or other flat surface so the wiring and connectors are not damaged.

Installation is in the reverse order.

I cannot figure out how to pull the steering wheel off of my 96 honda accord

Read this carefully, in total, before you begin.

With car wheels aimed straight ahead, disconnect the neg. battery terminal (if you have an anti-theft radio, make sure you have the code, because you will need it.)

Wait three minutes before proceeding to allow the airbag’s backup power supply to be depleted.

Remove the access plate from the lower steering column cover and remove the short connector from the access plate (the short connector is stowed on the inside of the access plate. It is a little device that is used especially for this purpose)

Unplug the airbag module-to-cable reel connector (yellow) and plug the short connector into the airbag module side of this connection to disable the airbag.

Remove the access panels from each side of the back of the steering wheel cover, then remove both of the torx screws (you’ll need a torx screwdriver) that retain the airbag module to the steering wheel.

Pull the module off the steering wheel and CAREFULLY set it aside with the trim side facing up.

Unplug the electrical connector for the horn, and, if you have it, for the cruise control.

Remove the steering wheel retaining nut. Paint or scribe a mark indicating the relationship of the steering wheel hub to the steering shaft.

Remove the steering wheel with a steering wheel puller. DO NOT turn the steering shaft while the steering wheel is removed. If you do so, the airbag reel could be damaged.

Reinstallation is the reverse of the removal, making sure the cable reel is centered with the car wheels straight ahead (if you haven't moved the shaft, that should not be a problem), and making sure that the locating pins on the steering column engage the holes in the back of the steering wheel. Put the nut back. Torque it (36 ft. lbs). Reconnect horn and cruise control. Replace airbag, tighten torx screws. Reconnect airbag and put short connector back in access plate. Reconnect neg. battery cable.

Hope this helps you.

How do I remove the steeringwheel from a 1997 toyota tacoma v-6 4x4

you must removwe the airbag first. disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes before you start. on th sidecover of the steering wheel you will find two covers that you must remove. underneath these covers you will find two # 30 torx screws. loosen these screws. they will not come all the way out. once they are removed lift out the airbag. carefully disconnect the airbag wiring. there is a 17mm nut holding the steering wheel on , remove it. at this point you can try to wiggle the wheel off but you will probably need a steering wheel puller. you would be much better off letting a professional handle this.

How to remove the cover off the steering on a 2002

Does your vehicle have an airbag in it? (SEE WARNING BELOW)
If so, you have to let the vehicle sit (no key in ignition!) for AT LEAST 30 minutes to deactivate airbag. Remove the screws from the back of the steering wheel to remove the airbag unit, (once airbag is removed, you should be able to see a little spring and a wire attached to the spring that is a push in and turn setup. That is attached to your horn button and if that is where the short is, fine. If not, you will have to proceed with taking the steering wheel off.) Make sure you make that vehicle sit for as long as possible before removing the airbag. Otherwise, it WILL deploy in your face and set you into the back seat at the very least!!!!!
To be safe, disconnect battery before even attempting to do anything with the steering wheel.

Headlights not working even after bulbs and fuses replaced

Replace your headlight switch. You need torx bits, a steering wheel puller, and bolts to perform the repair.

Disconnect your negative battery cable and wait at least 1 minute before going any further (this insures your airbags are disabled if your vehicle has them).

Remove the plastic covers that cover the steering colum. If applicable, remove the airbag from the steering wheel; if you don't have a airbag pull the horn switch from the center of the steering wheel. Remove the retaining clip from the center shaft in the steering colum. Remove the bolt that holds the steering wheel, then use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel. Remove the torx screws from the headlight switch, and remove the electrical connectors. Install in reverse.

I hope this information helps you, and I wish you luck on your repair.
