Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a kenmore 106.53252202 that the ice maker jammed with a batch of cubes that actually was 3/4 round as opposed to the usual half circle. Now the ejcectors are no longer rotating and I do not hear the motor. The optics seem to be ok.

Thanks, since the freezer was pretty much empty at this time, I took the suggestion of letting it thaw out and that corrected the problem. Sometimes it is the easy solutions.

First thing to check is that the icemaker is turned on. :D
SEE HERE to view the on/off switch.

Next...There is a timer that controls the ejector and motor assembly SEE it HERE
This is what times the freeze cycle & routs the power to the ejector arms after a set amount of time.

Finally - There is a thermostat that lets the timer know the ice is made. SEE IT HERE

Each of these items must be tested with a DMM (Digital Multimeter) or you will end up throwing money at it blindly. If your skillset does not allow the proper operation and use of a DMM - you should seek professional repair - as these circuits must be tested with live electricity (except the thermostat)

It IS possible (depending on how often you access the ice) that it is frozen the ejector arms from moving - in which case simply unplug the freezer and allow to thaw - then re-try. However since you do not hear clicking or noises - most likely one of the top 3 choices is the culprit in your case.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

See if you can get the ejector arms to move now that they are freed up.

Not making ice fast enough

Good day,
Assuming the cubes it's making are the proper size, the speed the ice maker produces ice is determined by the temperature in the freezer.
When the ice maker harvests a batch of ice, an electric heater heats up the whole ice maker.
There is a thermostat embedded in the ice maker. It must cool back down to approx. 12 degrees before making the next batch. The colder the freezer compartment, the faster the cycles.

If the cubes are too small then that is usually caused by a blockage in the water filter if your unit has one, or the water valve that feeds water to the ice maker is getting weak, or lastly the water supply to the machine has become partially restricted.

On extremely rare occasions the thermostat built into the ice maker goes out of calibration which can cause a delay in cycling and requires the ice maker to be replaced. But again, it is a very rare occurrence.

I have a Kenmore side by side, not sure the model, but it's probably 10 years old or so. It has an ice maker with water, cube and crushed ice dispenser. The ice maker works fine, but it will not dispense...

Most of the time the bin has been removed and not put back in properly. When this happens ice blocks the drive motor. Remove the bin and turn the auger by hand make sure it will turn and is not jammed. Now with the bin out push the light button in that turns the light out and have someone push the button for ice while the door is still open the motor should turn in the back make sure thereis no ice blocking it. If it turns nothing is wrong with the motor. The clicking sound is usually the motor jammed by ice or the auger not engaged on the motor. hope this helps good luck

Ice maker is not working

check that the ice maker arm is not in the up position or has come dislogded. if the metal wire is dislodged use a mirror to help put back in the ice maker. put it back in the round white area with an elongated slot. flip down if off. check the ice maker to see if an ice cube got hung up and is jamming it. check with eyes and fingers. last the ice maker will not cycle if the door switch is not activated. this check requires you turn off the ice maker with the arm. come back in 6 hours put the arm back down and hold door switch and see if it starts.

Press on the half-moon cube dividers, just watch your fingers in case it starts to move. It's jammed, and you can usually get it going again like this.

Ice maker is not working

Might be a stray ice cube has gotten jammed into the ejector. Easy fix: get a hair dryer and melt that pesky cube!, Older model? It might be anything from a bad water valve to a bad ice mold thermistat. Pour some water into the ice maker and see if it makes a batch if it des but no more it most likely is a bad water valve. If *** is not harvesting then the ice mold thermistat is easily replaced. GUIDE

Make sure their is no stray ice cubes jamming the ice maker. If they are then zap em with a hair dryer. Fill the ice maker with water and wait. if it kicks out a batch change the water valve. if it don't kick nine out change out the ice mold thermostat. None of this is very hard to fix. One other thing is if those condenser coils are clogged with lint then the ice maker won't get down to 25 f and the ice mold thermostat won't start the harvest.

Ice maker is making hollow ice cubes, some only half frozen

Most ice makers have an adjustment screw to control the cube size. Its usually hidden behind a plastic panel on the front of the ice maker. A quarter turn either way and some trial and error testing should get you pointed in the right direction to your ideal ice cube.
