Question about Kenmore Dryers
Dryer runs but does not heat
Posted by Anonymous on
Blower for lint build up and blower wheel obstruction., test by trying to turn the wheel manually by hand (should be easy) May have to remove cabinet or front/back plate to get to it)
Next check the heating element itself with a meter for continuity OHMS CLOSED CIRCUIT. If not its defective.
Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage. 220 because if u only get half or 110 volts you will be able to run the machine which uses only 110 to run motor but not the heater which uses a full 220,
Check the thermal cut off, the cycling and the hi limit thermostats.
For continuity or OHMS. If no ohms or resistance they need replacement.
Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.

Hello Friend, Your problem is very simple to fix. You're dryer needs a gas valve coil kit. To replace coils just remove front of dryer body and look below drum you will see the gas valve. The valve coils are located on top of valve (two little round black cylinders). It's simple, just remove the two screws from the little metal bracket that holds them down, unplug the wires from them and just lift them straight up off of the valve. Take notice that one has 3 wires and one has 2 wires. Just replace with new coils and plug wires back in and re-fasten metal bracket. Your dryer will run like new. Happy to help, Tim.

bad heater box fuse, get the model number from inside the dryer door, and go to your local appliance parts store and give them the number and they will get you a thermal fuse kit, remove the back of dryer and you will see the heater box on the right side

UNPLUG REMOVE THE BACK,YOU WILL SEE THE HEATER BOX TO YOUR LEFT,THERE IS A SMALL FUSE ON THE LEFT SIDE TOP,CHECK THAT IF YOU HAVE A METER,ON THE BOTTOM HALF OF BOX IS THE HEATING COIL,REMOVE THE 2 BOTTOM WITES AND CHECK THAT WITH YOUR METER,IF YOU DON'T HAVE A METER REMOVE THE 2 SCREWS ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE HEATING COIL AND REMOVE THE COIL,LOOK TO SEE IF ANY OF THE WIRES ARE BROKEN,IF IT WAS THE FUSE THAT'S BAD THERE MUST BE A REASON IT POPED,MAKE SURE YOUR WALL EXHAUST VENT IS CLEAR,ALSO IF YOU CHANGE THE FUSE CHANCE THE HIGH TEMP THERMOSTAT LOCATED ON THE LEFT SIDE BOTTOM,YOUR MODEL NUMBER IS INSIDE THE DRYER DOOR-MIKE

This could be the heating element or several other parts more likely the thermal fuse. There is a video on troubleshooting a similar model at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru troubleshooting your problem.

Tips for a great answer:
May 01, 2013 | Kenmore Dryers
Kenmore 80 Series of dryers are consumer grade dryers for home use. As
with most home appliances, the Kenmore 80 series dryers will
occasionally not work as intended. If a problem occurs with your dryer,
however, you do not necessarily need it serviced by a technician. You
can attempt to troubleshoot and fix any problems with your dryer before
contacting a technician.
