Neil,

A LOT of sites claim to have this manual, but all I checked are BOZO sites that try to send spam and trojans... NOT good.

The biggie is changing the lower unit oil,, making sure its not getting water inside,, R&R the fuel filter, R&R spark plugs, grease all fittings.. DOUBLE check the steering cables... they rust and corrode from the inside...NOT fun to be in a boat when the steering cable breaks!!!!!

How do i top up the lubricating oil in the hydraulics of a mercury outboard engine

I suppose you mean the oil in the Trim system...

Lift the engine all the way up,
Place the jackstand to keep the engine fully up.
You'll see a plastic plug in the center cylinder.
Unscrew that plug. ( There can be some pressure, take care of your eyes!)
Fill with ATF-oil till the level is at the bottom of the plug hole.
Screw the plug back in.
Lower the engine.
Done!

What year is a mercury 35hp outboard motor with serial number2491265.Is the motor 2 or 4 stroke

the serial number begins 2487558 and continues past 2491265 and as the beginning serial number denotes the year , your engine is 1969 model
it shows as a 2 stroke with auto oil injection
check the heads
if the plugs are in the flat of the head and there are no rocker covers it is 2 stroke

My two stroke mariner,25hp gets a spark and fuel but won't start way do I do ?

If u are positive it is getting fuel and spark to the end of both plugs the next thing to check would be cylinder compression. Low compression will keep it from starting too.

Have you replaced the impeller in the lower unit recently? If so was it in pieces? I would start there.

I left fuel in my 97 25hp mariner and now it won't start. how do i get the bad fuel out of the carbrator. I cleaned out the fuel filter and when and got some new gas and 2 cycle oil and bought some...

The carb needs to be removed, taken apart so it can be cleaned. after sitting, the gas will gum up the inside and stop up the jets. Also, it's not a good idea to use starting fluid on a 2 stroke engine.
