Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

Poor picture quality on a HDTV.

I recently purchased a hdtv and was looking forward to the improved picture quality this would give me,however....There is a faint horizontal purpley coloured bar across the screen.its generally more noticable during dark sections of games.i have an old model 360 and connect it to the tv using the component video cables that came with the system.just wondered if this was typical or is there something wrong.

Re: Poor picture quality on a HDTV.

When playing on HDTV's i think you have to have the HD Scart, these are £19.99 in Game and Gamestation. however i have seen them cheaper in PC World i think they where £14.99 (could have been cheaper).
I would try purchasing these connections because the standard connections are only made for normal TV's
Good luck

Trying to hook up WII game, have new led samsung, with blue ray and sound system, doesn't seem to be enough connections for rca cord

That's because there's only one. You shouldn't be using the RCA (Composite) connections on your TV for anything other than what you have to( i.e., the Wii) or else there was no point in purchasing it to begin with. You need an HDMI cable for your Blu-Ray player, an HDMI cable for your Cable Box and I don't know what kind of receiver you have so I can't comment on that but in less it's more than decade old it must at least have the ability to to do digital optical or coaxial (perhaps it's time to upgrade to a fancy 7.1 system with HDMI?). As far as your video sources are concerned, if you use RCA (Composite) cables or COAXIAL (thick cable from the cable box) you will be getting a standard definition picture on your 1080p 240Hz Samsung LED HDTV. Don't buy your HDMI cables in a store as they'll charge you between $20 and $100 for them. Get them at by clicking here for $2 - $3. There is no difference in quality between HDMI cables despite the lie that Monster Cable has perpetuated.
As far as the Wii is concerned, there is a Component cable available for it that will improve your picture dramatically over the RCA (Composite) cables (although not in HD because the Wii is an SD system). Nintendo sells it for $20 but of course, you can get at Monoprice for $3, here. I have this and it works great.
Good luck!

Just bought a used SNES. The picture quality is not so good and there are lines scrolling down the screen. Are there ways to improve this coloration related issue?

I would suggest checking the connectors from the console to the tv, as if there are heavily worn they may cause a poor picture. There is not a lot you can change with the SNES in terms of improving the quality, therefore I suggest also checking on another TV to ensure that is not the problem.

When I first bought my PS3 I didn't own a HDTV so I chose the low quality setting. Now I have a HDTV and I would like to know where do I go in the PS3 setting to change this so i have better quality...

If you want to have a High Quality Graphics on your HDTV you just need to use a HDMI cable or Component Cables that transmit High Definition Quality of Video. Settings of Video will automatically be adjusted. HDMI Cables transmit both high def video and audio signals.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Nintendo Wii works fine on standard tv but not on hdtv.

FOUND THE PROBLEM !!!!! The problem appears to be the Freeview somehow interfering with the Wii signal. When the aeriel lead is removed the Wii works fine, and the audio/visual signal is great. When the aeriel lead is in I have the problems. I hope this solution proves to be of use to anyone else having similar problems.

Picture quality on hdtv

Well it might be working just fine. Personal preference of HD plays a great role in this. Try asking other people if they think it looks HD worthy. If the cords work just fine and are plugged in into the correct A/V jacks, then it could just be your personal preference on what HD is.

No picture ot sound

I recently had a problem where my picture was going black and white, and was told to use the towel trick. it doesn't work. if i was u i would go to PC World (cos their the cheapest for Xbox accessories i have seen) and buy the standard cables for £14.99
or if you have a HDTv the HDTv pack for £19.99. These are £5.00 cheaper here than everywhere else.
Happy shopping!

What do i need to got sound out of my hdtv?im using a hdmi to dvi cable.

if you have no optional external speaker on the ps3 you may have an earphone socket which can be connected to your tv's pc sound input via a 3.5mm or 6.5mm jack plugs.
