How can I replace the rubber seal on the front brake caliper of my 07 mustang 4.0 v6?

Should I replace or rebuild the caliper on both sides at the same time with a kit?

The cost of rebuilt calipers are not that more expensive than a rebuild kit and you don't have to mess with the rebuilding process. By them rebuilt and do it quickly ad easily.

If boots are damaged it makes more sense to replace callipers. leave the rebuilding to professionals. Brakes are important and critical to safe driving new callipers are cheap , very few mechanics or shops will rebuild most parts today.

Good idea if its done a lot of miles, but you will need compressed air to blow the pistons out.

After replacing the front brake pads and rotors on my 2001 mustang the calipers are not releasing enough , you can hardly turn the front wheels by hand and the brakes are running hot . How do I get th

Calipers retract after the brakes are released by the slight wobble and rotation of the rotor. What is probably occurring on your vehicle is that the caliper pistons, having been extended due to the worn pads, may have developed rust ridges that prevent the piston from retracting completely. You may have to carefully extend the caliper piston(s) without dislodging them from the bore, then I would first use a brake cleaner on the piston surface. If that fails to work, very fine emery may work. Be sure to remove all residue to prevent seal damage. Do not use any unrecommended solvents as they can damage o-rings and seals

Brake fluid leaking from left front caliper.what could be the cause?

Hi,
The cause of leaking hydraulic fluids could be the caliper itself. For over years your using it dirt and dust might have accumulated in the seal and broke it.
Check also your brake pads it might be already worn and the caliper drum have moved to maximum and fluids came out.
There is a seal kit you could buy and replace the seal inside the caliper that is holding the caliper drum( a metal circular drum that pushes your brake pads when you brake ).
Pull down the caliper, remove the brake hose, using a high pressure a air would push out the caliper drum and you could see the rubber seal inside.

Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for using FixYa!

My right front brake will not release. It has actually burnt my brake pads which i need to replace. What can I do to get the brake to release?

I would replace the rubber brake hoses going
to the calipers,as they may have collapsed inside

Replace the calipers as they may have rusted inside,
and the pistons do not release

Do both side of car the same

Bleed all 4 wheels

I would recommend that you either rebuild the caliper, or replace it. It sounds like you have some bad seals.

Larry.. the symptoms you describe are exactly what would happens when your primary seal fails, the purpose of the primary seal is to generate and hold pressure, it is located just under the little hole in the reservoir and is a little rubber seal that pushes the fluid down the line and when it fails the fluid leaks by the seal making the brakes feel spongy... replace the seal and you should have your brakes back

91 Buick Park Avenue front left caliper slow to release. Replaced caliper and have same problem. After running a few miles and jacking up front end the whell cannot be turned by hand on left side. Right...

The caliper is probably rusty inside, and is stucked. Take it apart and clean it. You may need new rubber seal as well. This will save you money over buying a new one.

How do i replace the front caliper seal on 06 malibu maxx??????

while the seals in the calipers are replaceable, its probably easier just to get a new/re manufactured caliper. if for any reason the seals don't work perfectly you could lose control of the vehicle when attempting to stop. with that said i'll try to explain the best i can how to replace the seals in the calipers for that vehicle.

1. jack up the front of the vehicle, place on jackstands and remove the front wheels, make sure the parking brake is on
2. unbolt the caliper and unbolt the brake line from the caliper and take caliper to a clean bench
3. remove the dust boot retaining ring on the caliper that holds the boot to the caliper itself
4. using a blowgun with a rubber tip apply low pressure compressed air where the brake line was bolted to the caliper to push the piston out of the bore (be carefull and ready because the piston may shoot out with some force)
5. when the piston comes out you will need to replace the dust boot and the seal so remove the boot and seal carefully so you don't scratch the piston ( the seal is actually in the caliper piston bore hole)and throw out the old seal and boot.
6. inspect all the surfaces and make sure there are no imperfections at all on the piston, the piston bore, or the caliper, if the surfaces are marred in anyway, replace the caliper, if they are good, using brake cleen and compressed air clean all parts then dry them
7. get the new seal and lubricate with DOT 3 brake fluid
8. install new seal into the caliper bore
9. apply a thin coat of DOT 3 brake fluid to the piston itself
10. install bottom half the the caliper piston into the caliper bore.
11. install new dust boot seal onto the piston
12. compress the piston to the bottom of the caliper bore
13. fully seat the dust boot seal into the caliper and install retaining ring
14. reinstall on vehicle (make sure to use a NEW copper washer on the brake line to caliper fitting) and bleed the braking system while checking for leaks.

repeat process for the other side.

if the caliper leaks at all from the piston after seal replacement, replace the caliper.

make sure you properly bleed the brakes before attempting to drive your car.
