If your computer has a memory card reader, insert the card into the reader. Or else, you can purchase a card reader quite cheaply. Now in your PC, using windows explorer (Right click 'start' button and select 'explore' from menu), locate the card. It will usually be recognised as a USB mass storage device, and will be assigned the last drive letter. Right click over the drive letter and select 'format' from the menu.

I think you should be able to just plug the camera in to the PC with the card in the camera and the PC would be able to recognise it..

Bought a sony dsc h300 camera about 2 years ago...bought a Kingston Memory card for it....what do I do now ?

Have you tried formatting the new memory card? Sony suggest you format a new card using the camera.

Supported capacity:
  • Memory Stick Duo" media: up to 64 GB
  • "Memory Stick Micro" media: up to 16 GB
  • SD card: up to 64 GB
  • microSD memory card: up to 64 GB

You may also want to check the camera's user guide to narrow down what's causing the card not being detected.

Try another computer. If it does not format then it is defective. Get a new one.

My 2 GB Kingston memory card is locked. how to open it?

You'll need to reformat the card in order to reset the flash memory.

This is fairly simple to do. Simply insert the card into your card slot and go into My Computer (or just Computer in your start menu, if you're using Windows Vista or 7).

Next, right click on the icon that represents your card (this will be easily recognizable by looking at the capacity of the drive, it should be around 1.6-1.8 GB) and select "Format...". Format your drive using the recommended settings (usually FAT32, Quick Format) and you should be able to access it.

My kingston 8gb cards only show 1.87 gb and will

The 'FAT' file-system uses 16-bit arithmetic, and thus is limited to about 2GB in size.
The 'FAT32' file-system uses 32-bit arithmetic, and thus can easily format an 8GB device.

So, be sure to choose 'FAT32'.

Also:
Click Start
Right-mouse click My Computer
Choose Manage
Click Storage
Click Disk Management (local)
Does the card show a 1.87GB "partition", plus 6.13GB of "unused" space?
If so, then delete that "small" partition, and then create a new partition that "spans" the entire 8GB.
Then, FORMAT that partition.

Memory card will not format

good question about card size-camera proably supports up to 2gb only-try someone elses card and if it goes in and works fine assume you have a bad card-if not stick to 1 or 2 gb only and use a good brand like sandisk or pny only
