W Winter/Wet driving mode - enhanced vehicle traction
· Mode W will only function if the gear selector is in the (D)rive position.
· Press the button at the base of the gear selector to engage/disengage this driving mode (see illustration).
· An LED in the button will light up to indicate that W is engaged and this will also be displayed in the instrument panel (see page 23).
· This mode may be selected for starting/moving off on slippery roads.

When u press the gas pedal to hard the transmission shifts really hard

When the peddle is pressed really hard the trans is supposed to increase the shift firmness. The problem may be that the engine has some power problem which makes the trans look like the problem. If the engine is not operating correctly power wise hard shifting will occur.
If the car has a trans shift cable and it is adjusted incorrectly it will also shift hard. If the trans has vacuum modulator that is out of adjustment or going bad it will also shift hard. Many trans shops will test drive it for free so let the trans shop advise you for free and save some time.

What' mean Heater Control Circuit Sensor,Bank2,Sensor 1,Volvo S80,2000?

Heater control circuit is your O2/oxygen sensor which controls your emissions and keeps the car running efficiently. They go out quite frequently and need to be replaced. Wont cause any drivability issues other then lower fuel economy and check engine light. Sensors run between $50-$200 each.

Gear shift is locked. we can only shift the car

The automatic transmissions on these vehicles are known to die early in the life of the car and Volvo is well aware that the vehicle has a dud auto transmission. The symptoms you have mentioned are an indication that the transmission has had it. It's basically just running in limp mode now.

You don't say what mileage this vehicle has clocked up but even low mileage vehicles have had to have the entire transmission replaced due to failures like yours. You also, no doubt, have a transmission alert showing on the dash.

The bad news is that a replacement automatic transmission will now be necessary and this will be costly. Even then, with these cars, you could experience another transmission failure after just another 30000 miles or so of driving.

1988 Volvo several problems relateed to electrical system .

You need to get a Chilton manual for starters, they really have a lot of information on Volvos. The other problems you are having may be related to the wiring harness under the hood. In the center of the firewall is a big plug with a large bundle of wires running to it. Take it apart and check it to see if it is corroded, if it is, clean it out real well, pack it with dielectric grease and put it back together. This should solve most of your troubles. The 240 series were known for this problem. As for the strange shift points, that is just a Volvo thing.

You need an impulse sender that is located in the distributor. It is easier to get a used one from a wrecking yard and install the whole distributor. Am I right in assuming your rpm gauge is fluctuating up and down rapidly?
On your transmission problem, you can try cleaning the overdrive solenoid located on the back of the bell housing near the main linkage. Sometimes that helps with the delayed shifting problems.
