Question about Lasko 3720 Floor / Box Fan

1 Answer

Fan will not turn on when you plug it in.

Hi I recently purchased a Lasko box fan. It is a weather shield 3720 model. When I took it out of the box it would not turn on what so ever. I even tried plugging it in into different outlets and still nothing. The only thing that I can think of is that it says something about a fused safety plug. I am not sure if that would have anything to do with that or not. If that is the case is there a way that it can be fixed? Anyway please help me out with this. Thanks.

That could be the problem.just cut of the plug and attach a new one.

Lasko 3723 burnt motor

sorry but you need to purchase a new fan.
some times the motor is not aline correctly and the rotor "part that spins the blade" rubs on the stator "the part with the copper wire:" the motor
over heat with the friction, then smoke followed by the coil burning.

Cleaning

Model E20739: The entire back comes off to expose the fan blades after removing two screws. Just unplug the unit. On the back of the unit near the top is a recess that acts as a carrying handle. In that area you will see two large silver-colored screws. Remove these, grasp the back of the unit and push down on it as you pull it away from the body of the fan. You may have to wiggle it around a little to free it.

I have a Lasko HVB, but this might apply to your fan:

Without taking the thing totally apart, here's an idea you can try: The power cord on some models (like mine) has a "warning" tag. I had the damn thing all apart when I noticed this. (Well, who reads 'em??) Seems like there's a mini-fuse in the PLUG itself that, when it blows, there's nothing you can do about it except send it for repair to a factory authorized yadda yadda yadda. Who's going to do that??

If you plug in and NOTHING HAPPENS, here's what might turn out to be an cheap and easy fix: cut off a few inches of the plug end of the cord and go buy another plug at Ace. Heavy duty might be appropriate: don't think I'd want a lamp plug on this baby. Get one that's easy to install. Bring the cut off piece and they'll help you find exactly what you want.

If you want to open it up, there's a screw behind the Lasko medallion, remove that and you can snap out the grille. You can see where the cord comes in from the back of the blower housing. Test the line voltage. If you're not getting about 120VAC, it's the plug.

If that's not it, IMHO, without some knowledge or a schematic, you're screwed. That'd be me. It wasn't the plug.

Good luck!
