Hi Adrian, what is the model of you car.. is it a C-Class W202 or E-Class W210 model. If you can supply the Vin or chassis number.. starts with WDB.. and 14 digits after that. The steering lock is held in with pin, depending on model.. to remove key tumbler you need a special tool (which can be easily made in a w/shop) but still need the key to turn tumbler to position 2 to insert tools to remove the tumbler. Than remove the cover shroud that is over the tumbler. Than the steering lock can be removed, if you cannot remove the tumbler, the steering lock will have to be cut out in place.
