Hi... It sounds like something may/could have become disconnected. I wouldn't hesitate to take the back off... the problem should 'in this case' be obvious.

Testimonial: "After taking the vac valve apart for cleaning and putting it back,I turned on the machine and found what was causing the problem, the tube between boilers had a pinhole and as pressure built it sprayed water and steam out the back! Is there better tubing (not plastic) that will work on this machine?"

I would ascetain the gauge of the hose and then goggle clear plastic steam pipe. Purchase enough to enable further changes in the future. It may be that over time the tubing fails.

Use Citric Acid.

  1. Dissolve about one tablespoon of citric acid in the water reservoir.
  2. Fill the boiler completely. Open the steam valve and start a hot water cycle until water comes out the steam vent. Stop the hot water cycle, close the vent.
  3. Let the boiler heat up about 5 minutes. Then turn off the power.
  4. Let the acid solution work for about 1/2 hour.
  5. Pull a 30 second shot to change the water in the boiler.
  6. Repeat flushing cycles (steps 3, 4, & 5) until the water looks clear. Refill the reservoir with water and acid as needed.
  7. Wash out the water reservoir.
  8. Pull 5 or shots to get the acidic water out of the boiler. Run a hot water cycle to clean the acidic water out of the steam vent.
  9. Let the unit come to temperature and look for leaks.
  10. Make some coffee and look for leaks.
  11. Froth some milk and look for leaks.

Clicking sound after start-up

Sounds like one of your vent doors. Cycle the vent lever while it's clicking.

I turn the ECM Giotto on, the light comes on but the pump does not activate and no heat. 2 hours later it all works fine.

Try this open the steam valve when you turn the machine on, leave the valve open until it starts to hiss with steam, then turn off valve. If that works then the vent valve is sticking and needs to be replaced.

Hi, the machine needs to be powered on and off many times in order to be ready to work. A click noise is coming from behind when powering off. Thanks

Try this open the steam valve and leave it open then turn on the machine, close the valve when the wand starts making a hissing noise. I think the vent valve on your machine is damaged and needs to be replaced.

My 5 year old Giotto has stopped working

The vent valve on the machine is stuck in the open position. Turn on the machine and open the steam wand until you hear a hiss or see small water bubbles from nozzle, let it steam out a little more then close wand, that should allow the machine to heat up correctly, then order a new vent valve for the machine.

At the end of initial pressure-up after first turning my Epoca on in the morning, the pressure goes past 'normal' until it blows the escape valve. What is wrong? Thanks. Matt

The vent valve is stuck in the open position, leave the steam wand open, while the machine is heating until you hear it hissing, then close steam wand and machine should heat up properly. Replace the vent valve as soon as possible.

Old 1996 nuova simonelli mac digit no pressure or heat

There is a reset thermostat on the right side of the machine above the element, check to see if it tripped. If it did make sure there is enough water in the machine and when turning it on, open one of the steam valves and turn off the cup warmer. Leave the steam wand open until it hisses or small amounts of steam or air will vent out.
