Delete and reinstall the game data. Just keep your saves.

SOURCE: Old (Original) Xbox - Live Account

This solution assumes you never had a gamertag for your original xbox (as was my case)

stuff you will need: xbox live subscription card, credit card, email address, xbox original connected to internet

Purchase subscription card from retailer (card will say for xbox360, this is fine...I used a 1 month card)

Get on your computer and go to, near the top right corner it will say to sign in, do this so you can begin to create a gamertag

enter your email address and password and continue to setup your new gamertag( I don't recall specifics, however if you've set up an account before you know the routine: name, address, birthday etc..)

After you've created your gamertag, the name & picture you chose should be on the top of the on your gamer name

This will take you to your account on "Manage Profile"

After that, on the right will be an option "Redeem Code"

If you havent already, scratch off the silver on your pre-paid subscription card to reveal the code

The next screens will have you enter your credit card and billing info (do NOT skip; this is needed to recover this gamertag on the original xbox)

Enter the redemption code when prompted, this will associate an xbox live subscription with your gamertag

Once you have entered that info, go ahead and double check that your credit card info is saved under "Manage Payment Options"...if it isn't go ahead and re-enter your credit card info and save it

Make sure your xbox is connected to the internet, with no game inserted, power it on

Choose xbox live

Choose Account Recovery

Enter your gamertag, cardholder name, credit card number, & postal code EXACTLY as you did on

if everything went correctly, you should be re-directed back to the "Select Account" screen on your xbox and your gamertag should now be selectable.

The instructions for navigating the site are merely a guide, just know that you need to setup a gamertag and associate the xboxlive subscription & credit card info with that gamertag

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Game Won't load With Hard Drive in, But will Without harddrive

look for any corrupted file on your harddrive, instead of a normal icon for a file, it will show a yellow triangle and an exclamation point in the middle, delete it..

after that clear cache, to do this go to system settings, memory,
press y for device options, if you can see the rename and format option in the screen, you are in the right screen, press x, x, left bumper, right bumper, and then x, x, select yes,

even though you cannot see any corrupted files in all of the folders in the harddrive, you have to clear the cache..

if this doesnt work try deleting the saved game content to that specific game..

SOURCE: purple screen - that reads update failed

I finally found out how to fix this! go to this website : and download the torrent. Follow the directions from the second page of this forum: . all you have to do is copy the $systemupdate folder that you need onto a usb drive and plug it into the 360 then turn on your 360. you can find out what number update you need by the number at the botom of the screen or if your like me and dont have those numbers youll have to go back and forth untill it boots up to the right update. make sure your flash drive is cleared out except the $systemupdate folder. go one at a time until it boots up with that update file.

SOURCE: Update failed xbox 360

Simply hold down the sync button before turning on the console. Continue to hold the sync button until the console boots to dashboard completely. This will clear any failed updates. If you still have this issue after performing this you will more than likely need to send your console in for repair.

Cause that game needs a new dash.Check what dash you are currently on by going to system settings and system info you will see the kernel there .it most likely is an old version so download this one( http;//
1.) Unrar the download (i use winzip)
2.) Copy the $SystemUpdate folder to the root of a pc formatted USB Stick (The memory stick must be FAT or Fat32 formatted)
3.)With that extracted folder now on your USB, Insert the USB Stick into your Xbox 360 console.
4.) You will be automatically prompted to update with a USB stick. Power down the 360 and power it on again. You should be ask to update before the 360 boots to the dashboard.Click yes and wait for it to install then shut down.
5.) Once the update is complete your Xbox 360 will restart then boot up to the new dashboard.

My son got Star Wars clone and Teetris Wold pk for Xvox. When he puts it in it tells him that the game is to old & to upgrade it go to, NO help there. we have the Xbox 360 Live is...

Unfortunately, no. I have tried many times, with this exact game, but to no avail. The only way for an original XBox game to be compatible with an XBox 360, you must download the update for XBox 360 from XBox Live, some games will not have an update available so it will be impossible to play these original XBox games on the XBox 360.

All of a sudden when we start Call of Duty world at war it says there is an update for the game. Chose update and it then says that it cannot download the update and signs out of xbox live. You cannot not...

check playing with this disc on any other Xbox 360 connected to live, ideally the disc should not have problem since the problem you are facing could be with saving or downloading of the specific update required to play game online on xbox live which is mostly related to updated playlists.

If it still does not work, try erasing the saves for this particular game from your Xbox 360 HDD in case you are okay to forego the game progress / XP gained for the offline campaign play.

Xbox 360 faild update im really madd and only

If you were doing the update through Xbox live here is how you fix it. With the console powered off hold the sync button pushed in. Keeping it pushed in, turn the console on. As long as you are holding the sync button the entire time it should load up to your dashboard and clear out the failed update.
Once you've done that, try the update again.
