Question about Garden

1 Answer

We have purchased brand new john Deere, troy bilt and some other brand (I can't remember) lawn tractors over the last 5 years and they all go through about 3-5 belts from May to September. Each belt is getting 5-10 hours of use. What are we doing wrong?!?!?

What comes to mind is that the belts are being overly stressed on the new equipment. I can't imagine going through so many belts per season. Are the belts breaking or stretching? What are you mowing, High grass, weeds, and at what engine speed ? How low is the mower deck set? What tractor speed is used. Does the top of the deck become clogged with excessive amounts of clippings? Does the mower bog down and strain? These are all factors that can shorten the life of a belt.

We are mowing about 4 acres of uneven terrain. The issue is probably that we should have a farm tractor not a lawn tractor. But my husband has been much more conscious of the deck height and really avoiding the rougher spots and it seems like it is better. Thank you for your response because it lead us/him to really look at what we might be able to do that could help.

SOURCE: John Deere Lawn Tractor LX176. Battery discharge

Locate voltage regulator above battery to the left as you sit on machine, its behind frame that supports steering wheel.Once you have found it use a light to shine on harness and follow the brown wire that leads into regulator. The plastic around that wire should not be burnt or showing any other color. The LX series machines had a problem with brown wire coming loose and causing the charging light to stay on.Remove plug from reg and use small screwdriver to clean out wire and work it a little so it makes good contact.

I have a Troy-bilt lawn tractor model N779 Pony. The last time I used it, it ran fine. Now, after a couple of weeks, I can't seem to get any fire from the spark plug. I have checked the only fuse I could...

The two most popular switches that fail are the seat and break, if you have a ohm meter you can test each switch starting from the battery and moving down the line.
