I just bend the guides back slightly, just enough so that the belt passes, placing the belt on the second pulley, turning the pulley slowly while the belt walks on it. the guide pins I then return into place with a hammer. The correct way is to remove the pulley, put the belt onto it the reinstall the pulley with the belt on it. Your may be different. If different please give the make and model.

SOURCE: both belts shredded. Atlas garden tiller model 12 -5100

I bought a repair manual from Clymer and found the belt sizes for my Atlas 12.5022 tiller. The manual lists a 1/2 inch by by 36 inch forward belt and 1/2 inch by 32 inch reverse belt for the model 12-5100. Good luck. Don't bother to buy the Clyme manual. It isn't very complete.

SOURCE: My tiller needs belts, and I don't know how they

Assuming you have not already removed them make yourself a detailed sketch of how the belts are routed (your owner's manual should also show how how they go back on). Remove any guards or retainers (that keeps the belts from jumping off the pulleys) and put the new belts on just like the old ones. Reinstall any guards or retainers you removed. I know this may look complicated but if you take your time and figure out which belt does what it is not all that difficult. Hope this helps.

I crossed that number and it comes up as an autolite plug. The NAPA number for a champion plug is 805 or an NGK 7928. Take the old one in and compare them but that is the best I can do

There is no actual transmission disconnect on the mower. If you put in neutral the belt would need to slip on the pulley in order for it to be pushed or roll freely. This usually doesn't happen.

I am having trouble starting my Craftsman 5 HP tiller. It is about 25 years old, but it only gets used about 1 hour/ year. It almost starts, but doesn't. Would a dirty air filter or old oil cause this...

The carburetor jets could have gotten dirty or gummed up enough not to let the fuel flow any longer, depending on how well you winterize it between seasons. You could try some starter fluid, but you might be better off having someone put a new return spring in the winder and rebuild the carb.
Of course the air filter would like to be clean, as well.
But I should think that's not what's keeping it from starting. If you hadn't been washed thoroughly for 25 years, how would you feel about getting up in the morning?

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Mantis 2-stroke tiller won't start

This could be one of several problems...
• Last year's fuel. Get some fresh gas.
• Every 2-stroke needs a new spark plug each year... you know what that means.
• Clogged carb jets due to storing the tiller over the winter with fuel in the system. Never, ever do that. Now you'll need to pull the carb apart and clean it. Most of the orifices are so tiny you can't see them. Good luck.
• Engine is so old the crankshaft seals have hardened with age. This is one reason no 2-stroke lasts longer than about 8 years. If the seals are shot, then it will cost more to fix than a new one costs. Time to toss it.

Dryer won't start

belts, as in 2?? you do have an old speed queen. did you make sure the blower is able to turn freely?
if so then you most likely have a bad winding in the motor. it is costly to replace and you should go out and get a new dryer. too much money to fix this old unit.
by the way the model number is under the front panel in the center, on a metal plate.
doesnt matter since you know its 25 years old and its time to update.

Age problem

Since you have the answer, the easiest way to work with this is to work with real numbers and break it down. What are the knowns?
Rose + 25 = Dad
10 + 25 = 35 (today)
5 years ago, Dad (then 30) was 2x old as Rose will be 5 years from now (+5), or (30/2) -5 = 10

You can also put this into formulas
Rose + 25 = Dad
Dad - 5 = 2 * (Rose + 5)

So, if Dad = Rose + 25, you can substitute one for the other in the 2nd formula, like so:

(Rose + 25) - 5 = 2 * (Rose + 5)
Rose + 20 = 2 * (Rose + 5)
Now, you can solve for Rose and eventually come up with 10

I hope this helps.
