Question about Precor EFX 556 Elliptical

Open Question

Will not shut down

I bought a Precore EFX 556 used. When i purchased it it shutdown or went to sleep. That was one of the most important features i wanted. Now that i have it in my home, i plugged it in and did my workout routine, and now it wont go to sleep. i have to unplug it to turn it off. It was my understanding that you turn it on by pedaling and after a few min of not being used it should shut down. What am i doing wrong

WHY DO MY COMPUTER STARTS WITH TWO STEP?

Sounds like it is in sleep mode at startup. On some compaq, hp, and emachines the power button also serves as a sleep button. If you touch it, they go to sleep, hold it down at least 4 seconds, they shut off. If it was shut off this way that could happen. Also look in display properties under sreenssaver/power options to find the timeout on going to sleep, hibernate, password on waking up, using the tabs,(xp), or categories on the left (vista, 7, 8) to find these features. Also check under power schemes, advanced, and UPS to select timeout features and password on waking up. If it was touched to sleep, touching it should wake it up and allow it to be shutdown properly. On the next startup it should be normal.

CHARGE BATTERY ON PRECORE EFX546I

The machine recharges the battery while in use. If your battery is dead, chances are you have a battery with some dead cells. You will need to locate your battery, usually mounted under the lower electronic board. You can try a 12 volt charger, or purchase a replacement battery. My new precore has a squeaky noise when i an on it what can i do to get rid of it. can i use wd40 on the wheels?

No please do not. If the wheels are noisy, they need to be replaced. If something else is noisy, it needs to be addressed - spraying things with lube rarely fixes anything, and can cause more damage.

Sleep and hibernate options are part of Bios. what i mean by that is if these is an issue with Bios these features wont work. Sometimes there has been known issues with cordless mice and other devices plugged in via usb port. Also outdated video and other drivers will do same. i would recommend first of all going to manufacturers site and downloading latest Bios update for your system, once this is done run windows update and make sure pc is restarted once done. After all this go back to your manufacturers site and download all of the driver updates that are available. Hope this helps.

Sleep vs Shut down

It depends on how long computer is being used in a day.
for general use
you can shutdown your computer once in 2 days but i highly recommend not to put in sleep mode and betting putting in hibernate mode instead of sleep mode.
note: most of simple issues are resolved by restarting PC so you can guess now how important is to shut down computer.

Good luck,

Hp laptop random shutdown - overheat?

Your CPU is likely overheating. Very likely the thermal conducting material between the CPU chip and the heatsink may have shrunk and now impeades the thermal transfer.
You may need to remove the heatsink and put new thermal paste and perhaps copper shim to restore the thermal contact to the heatsink.
