Most washmachines use a main control swith/button that must be pushed in to engage the timer SELECTOR portion, once you've moved to the function you wish to have it perform, grasp each side and pull straight out until it clicks into place. It's at this point that the outside will spin around and not click into any selection.

SOURCE: The dial to select wash cycle (GE top load washer)

The knob wears out and won't grab. It is easy enough to replace if you know the trick. Take pair of tweezers and remove the clip behind the knob, just push on the replacement knob and oil the timer then move the timer around several times to help the shaft turn easier.b8e8a25.jpg

SOURCE: The wash dial on my hotpoint wmf760 is not selecting

The knob needs to be removed and the knob and the mating part will need to be replaced. The teeth on these parts wear off with time. There is a clip on the back of the knob that pulls off this holds the knob on. Then the mating piece will pull out. Eneter your model # at www.appliancehelponline.com for diagrams and illustrations. All parts come with installation instructions.

How will i know if it is the moter that is broken on my wmf540?

The WMF540 motor is usually quite robust, depending on the symtoms.... I would look at the Main control panel, and check the brushes on the motor.

see the cause:To check the control remove the top panel and then remove the console to access the wiring to the control. Find the wire feeding the control from the main power cord. If you cannot visually see this refer to the tech sheet or service manual. Connect voltmeter to the 2 wires feeding the control if it is recieving power and it does not respond replace the control.
God bless you

This unit (WH21) was installed 1 mth. ago. This is my second unit I've installed with the first being for a friend and his has "NO ISSUES". In the last week mine the second unit has failed to...

You probably have defective timer.
I test timers, and some timers arrive defective.
I have not tested WH21, so check with your friend about the indicator light.

Mechanical dial timers make audible noise, and dial should rotate as time passes and keep exact time. If dial is not rotating correctly on new timer, then something is not working correctly. The level of timer is not an issue. It sounds like the motor gear is not engaging with dial.
To test timer noise, click manual override lever. You will hear same noise each time timer turns on-off.

WH21 is SPST 21amp timer which turns off one hot wire to water heater.
WH21 is rated to work on 4500Watt 18.75 amp water heater. Or smaller wattage.
Check label on side of water heater for wattage. WH21 is not rated for 5500Watt water heater.

There are many water heater timers:
Electronic timers give more precise time control and option for shorter on-off periods.
Electronic timers are quieter and don't need to be reset after power outage.

More expensive Intermatic WH40 timer is rated for greater capacity, and has replacement motors and trippers. WH40 is noisy too, but will last for years. WH40 is SPDT so it turns off both hot wires to water heater. I prefer SPDT, and have tested WH40 and other timers shown on link above.

Have a Deere 160 Lawn Tractor. When trying to engage the blades; via dash switch; the engine bogs down and stalls almost immediately.

"suggestion" .......While engine is "NOT RUNNING" ...I repeat "NOT RUNNING"... And after looking at owners manual to be sure that all brakes are disengaged and that drive belts are routed properly....... reach underneath and see if blades will turn freely.. there may be something such as string, wire, twine, ribbon,or tough grass and fibrous weeds wrapped around the spindle between the blades and the housing....(this will show by the blade or blades being difficult to turn while dis-engaged.) one can often cure this by putting mower up on blocks on one side or the other (high enough to reach into blades without them being obstructed from turning)...and using a screw-driver, awl,or needle nose pliers to extract whatever is binding the blades from turning...... .... there may also be a lack of lubrication... which will show itself by a grinding noise when forcing the blades to turn by hand... this can sometimes be cured by pumping grease with a grease gun into the zert on the top of the spindle (spinny thing)..it (the zert,or grease recepticle) is usually on the upper side of the blade housing..in the center of where the drive belt goes on the pully that drives (turns)the blade.... excessive grinding may be an indication that spindle(s) .. (spinny things) are worn and need to be replaced...
if all seems to be spinning freely when dis-engaged...it may be that the carbeurator or governor needs adjusted or the fuel filter(s) are clogged......or even that the oil in crank case is low creating a low compression (power) issue...a general maintenance should cure such.. .....None of these is are very time consuming... ..Good luck and let me know!!!
